Talk me out of a 308

You mean like everyone who's going to suggest he should have bought hundreds of 175s instead of 168s?
he had them left over from older rifles he no longer owns.
i have never sold a firearm. plenty of takers when i go.

:p

I don’t understand why when people get into a sport or hobby they want to get the easiest platform that does all of the work for you. Like people that buy an ultra-light road bike with a shitload of gears to exercise and stay fat but now it’s worse because they fat around in spandex and you have to hear about their bike. Get a shitty huffy from sears, let the air out of the tires, and ride it 20 miles a day. guaranteed weight loss. Same thing with a .308 or .30-06, it forces you to learn to do things right or it hurts you and you miss a lot.

Everyone needs a.308, pretty sure it says it in Ephesians or amphibians or one of those early bible books.

I was going to sell the 168s for 175s but figured at worst, I need a moa gun for this match.. and if I can’t get hits at 500 with 168s, I’ve got bigger problems than needing to change bullets

No, a Win model 92 lever rifle (not carbine) and a SAA revolver in color case hardening and in .357 Mag is the bomb. I'll post pics if I could ever figure out how to so so.

And in a single post, Greg Legitimized the Savage. Because if Greg has one, it's a worthy rifle! Few folks here know their stuff as well.

Rut roh; now I'm confused...

LOL

Greg

are people that big of pussies about recoil? maybe y'all been shooting 22s too much?
i've shot hundreds of rounds from a .308 gas gun in a day and wasn't remotely bothered.
otoh, my winchester model 88 kicks like a fucker. i am tempted to put a pussy pad on that guy.

you know, it is much easier to make a basket with the smaller women's basketball.
does that make it better?
go ahead and shoot the ladies guns if you need to.

jk

Sure .308 recoil is plenty manageable, but if everybody used effective cartridges like 7mm-08 .308, .280 rem, and .30-06, we wouldn’t have an opportunity for 157 threads asking if a 95 gr FMJ from a $3000 custom 30 pound 6brx is ok for killing grizzly at 1370 yards. And if everybody learned how to do positional shots or shorts off a backpack like we used to, there wouldn’t be a market for ultralight tripods, tactical bean bags, and all the other doodads that you have to buy in order to finish mid pack at a PRS event (what would we do with all of our spare cash?)

@OP, I am too lazy to catch up on the thread...

Did you buy that shit or not?

Go back and read his post. Every word of it. Twice.

And you will get .308.

Sirhr
Naw dude you got that all wrong, it's the fresh ammo. Nothing more nothing less

everyone has perfect technique shooting a 22lr

I totally disagree.

I have a CZ455 with a long and slightly thin barrel.

It´s the most demanding rifle I have skillwise.
If you pull the trigger or do any shooting mistake, the bullet flies off the target.

take the average 6.5 creedmore shooter who shoots ".5MOA all day"

give them a 22lr and they shoot very well

give those same guys a unbraked 300WM and they wont shoot 1.5 moa at 100

seen that alot more than the other way around

hell...my kids can shoot my 22lr .5MOA at 50 yards . so much so that i now use the 50 KYL rack at 100 because the 100 was too easy after a while

my 10 year old cant shoot my big center fire stuff (both AX chassis or AX rifle so its not the stock fit)

its all recoil management, the bigger the recoil the more "perfect" recoil management is needed.

Alot of fundamental issues with a shooter can be hidden by a "better" caliber. Get the. 308, build the gun around you and by the time you shoot that barrel out you might be ready for a 260 rem swap. There's so much more than caliber, training and availability are not replaceable
