Is there and practicality to a dedicated 9mm can vs 45 can? And who makes a decent one without busting the bank?

To me it boils down to ease. I decided to go with two 45 cans, that way they can cover all my pistols from 45acp, 10mm, 9mm, 357, etc (I don’t own a pistol bigger then 45 bore). I thought about getting a 9mm can which is a tad bit quieter and lighter then the 45’s but I’d rather keep it simple for my pistols and go caliber specific for my rifles which I shoot more anyway. Rugged Obsidian are great cans. You can keep them in full configuration or “K” configuration which shaves a few inches in total length off and ounces off as well.

I've been wanting to get a .45 can as well to cover my 1911 and other 9mm pistols including my AR9. Definitely looking at SiCo

I thought most .45 cans are quieter than 9mm when used on 9mm because of the volume?

I'm likely wrong on this but I have seen that before.

Depends on host, ammunition, specific silencer, baffle design; lots of variables to consider. Volume is just a part of silencer design. In my testing, caliber specific silencers do perform better, all things being equal. There are exceptions of course.

I guess I would never suppress a pistol, just me, if you can't holster a pistol what good is it, my opinion.
But did buy a 45 can for a Sig MPX, I regret that move every time I fire it. The 9mm can would have been a way better fit.

This ones mainly gonna be used with a Scorpion Micro

I went with a 9mm for my Scorpion. I have a few 9mm pistol (I'm sure most here do as well), so it seemed having at least one dedicated 9mm suppressor would make sense. Also, that will see a ton more time on my Scorpion than it will on anything else.

I totally agree with this. Omega 9k all the way. Price is decent and like the Saker, it works on damn near everything with a plethora of mounts. And it's compact. I think they make a 45k too?

    Dedicated cans all the way.

@HansohnBrothers - do any of your recommendations above change if someone wants to use a .45 can for both a 1911 and a .22lr bolt gun?
Yes. If you want to use it on a 22LR, being able to take the silencer apart to clean is important. However, I will always recommend a using a dedicated rimfire silencer above all else.

Got it, thanks. Would you recommendation to have a dedicated .22lr be centered on accuracy concerns?

I have 2 45 cans that I shoot 9 and 45 through. One is on my 7.5" AR9 PCC. I use and love the Rugged Obsidian 45. Can run it in the short config or long config, easy to take apart and clean. Lifetime no bs warranty. Couldnt be happier and glad I didnt get a 9mm only can. I run them on my AR45 PCC and 1911, G19, and SIG P229 as well.
