looking at the vortex dimondback tactical, going to get one for long range shooting should I go with the 4 to 16 x44 or 6 to 24 x 50
I have the Sightmark version of this scope.
Mine is 3-18, which is not offered by Vortex.
However, the tube appears identical as well as the turrets (the sightmark has locking turrets, the diamondback does not).
What they BOTH have is 6 mil turrets and no zero stop.
The rifle I put mine on, not a big deal. If you get out there shooting actual long distance, you'll likely hate the 6 mil turrets.
The range of adjustment is also a limited.
To be honest with you, if your budget is 300 bucks, take a serious look at the SS 12 X. Yes, it is limited by 5 mil turrets, but they have a very long history of tracking and robustness. There is a Hide member that makes nylon washers as a zero stop for them.
What I would really encourage you to do, save up and move up in class to the Athlon Midas Tac 4-16. It will serve you better, for longer.
