Rifle Scopes Dimondback tactical

What rifle/caliber are you putting it on? Does the rifle serve double duty as a hunting rig? What do you consider "long range"? 100 yards? 500yards? 1000yards? a mile?

Without the above info, my default in lower level/entry level optics is to go with the lower magnification. Higher magnification can make small quality issues with the glass more prevalent.

Also, have you looked at Athlon? Similar price point for a FFP scope, but with better reticle options and the ability to add a zero stop. I also think the coatings on my Athlon Talos BTR is better than the DB Tactical, but thats to my eyes.

We've got a Showcase Display Unit of the Athlon Optics Talos BTR 4-14x44 - APLR2 FFP IR MIL which was never mounted for only $249.99. We are in the middle of selling off all showcase display units and redoing all the cases while we have been closed to the public. At $249.99 this is a great scope.
This Talos BTR4-14×44 Model has APLR2 first focal plane illuminated MIL reticle in it.

FEATURES
  • Illuminated Reticle: The illuminated reticle provides greater visibility during dusk and dawn and other low ambient light environment.
  • Etched Glass Reticle: Reticle etched on the glass that provides excellent backing support for complex reticle design and offers great durability and much higher shock resistance to recoil
  • Fully Multicoated: Fully Multicoated optics effectively reduces reflected light and increases the transmission of light giving you a brighter image than normal single coated lenses
  • Aircraft Grade Aluminum: Aircraft Grade Aluminum provide extra strength and durability to handle the toughest terrain and offers lifetime of use.
  • Heat Treated One Piece Tube Construction: Heat treated one piece tube gives the scope extra strength over multi-piece tubes. A one piece tube also is better at keeping moisture out thus keeping your scope fog proof for the life of the product
  • Waterproof: Waterproof to protect the scope in the harshest weather conditions or if accidently submerged underwater
  • Fog proof: Fog proof to allow you to immediately engage your target when you take your rifle to cold ambient temperature from warm inside
  • Shockproof: Robust mechanical system with special designs on both control and erector system that give you the ultimate recoil resistance to withstand 1000G recoil for 1000 times.
  • Nitrogen Purged: Nitrogen purging dramatically reduces the moisture inside the tube and helps maintaining fogproof and waterproof.

looking at the vortex dimondback tactical, going to get one for long range shooting should I go with the 4 to 16 x44 or 6 to 24 x 50
I have the Sightmark version of this scope.
Mine is 3-18, which is not offered by Vortex.
However, the tube appears identical as well as the turrets (the sightmark has locking turrets, the diamondback does not).
What they BOTH have is 6 mil turrets and no zero stop.
The rifle I put mine on, not a big deal. If you get out there shooting actual long distance, you'll likely hate the 6 mil turrets.
The range of adjustment is also a limited.
To be honest with you, if your budget is 300 bucks, take a serious look at the SS 12 X. Yes, it is limited by 5 mil turrets, but they have a very long history of tracking and robustness. There is a Hide member that makes nylon washers as a zero stop for them.

What I would really encourage you to do, save up and move up in class to the Athlon Midas Tac 4-16. It will serve you better, for longer.
