Any downsides to running light pills in 300win?

Supposing they shoot alright, of course.

I love shooting my 300win. it's a quarter to half MOA gun with my 208gn amax load... but I was doing some fiddling on Strelok and noted that if I was running 168s through it, my performance in almost all categories is about the same out to 500ish, and that's generally all I shoot.

I did some reading and noted lighter faster bullets may also extend my barrel life, which I'd be keen to achieve. And I've got a pile of 168gn match heads, so that's nice.

Anything I'm missing?

Shoot the heavy stuff and sell those 168s to me for super cheap. 😁

Inside of 500, I'd stick with what works for you.
You won't have any issues as long as the barrel likes them. I used to shoot 130 gr Barnes TTSX in my 300 WSM's. Total laser within 350 yds. That was about the max range I could shoot where I hunted. Totally awesome performance and good accuracy. Today I've gone up to 175 LRX because I can shoot to 500 yds in many areas. Not as flat of course but super accurate and very deadly. Personally I don't consider a 168 gr bullet light but I'm not shooting 1000yds either. We've messed around with the 168 gr ELD's in a couple 300WSM's. They shoot well.
