I'm building a rimx and I'm not familiar with the 22rf barrel. The guy I plan on using to build it said 22rf, not really questioning him just looking for some opinions since I'm unfamiliar with it.

Your question is not really clear. If you are building a 22RF you definitely want a RF barrel. Before doing a build I would suggest contacting Mike at Vudoo. He is doing a lot of research on 22 RF barrel twist just now. Mike @RAVAGE88 is a great guy and will likely share his info with you regarding twist rates for LR or ELR RF barrels even though you are using his competitors action.

Just the standard 5r .224 blank vs a 22rf.

There is no standard 22rf blank.... Bartlein uses a 5 groove in their 22RF blank, Krieger uses 6 groove, Benchmark uses 2 and 3 groove, Lilja uses 3 groove, and Green Mountain's are 6 groove.... All are 1:16 or 1:16.5 unless you specifically order a different twist rate...

If you want to see the difference of all of these difference barrels see my RimX review thread. They all sent me barrels to test. They all shot very well with the Bartlein and Krieger being at the very top of the list.....You would be happy with any of them with the right chamber...

A .224 blank is not a rimfire blank

Exactly. A .224 barrel blank is for centerfire .22 calibers like .223, .22-250, .22cm, etc..

Here's a picture I just snapped for you of barrel coins from my Bartlein and Krieger .22 RF and .224 centerfire blanks. Rimfire blanks on left, centerfire on right. You can see the land and groove measurement differences between centerfire and rimfire blanks... You can also see the rifling difference on the Bartleins, .224 blanks are 5R where .22 RF are 5 Groove conventional rifling..

+1 for the Bartlein rimfire barrels, I have one in my Vudoo and it shoots lights out.

A .224 barrel, even an expensive one, will not shoot tight groups with .22lr. I learned that the hard way with a White Oak match barrel and a CMMG conversion kit in an AR15.
