Sorry if I missed a post about Florida, but I haven’t been able to find a good long distance range. I’m in Central Florida but willing to travel.

The only open range that has 1K+ yards is Tradecraft in Immokalee. JTAC Ranch in Mulberry will open up sooner or later, and that will go to 2K yards. Also, I think the Volusia range will have about 1K yards soon.
Ares in Leesburg goes out to about 900 yards too.

Volusia county gun and hunt club has one out to 900 now. Opened about a week or so ago. They’re still ironing out everything from what I gathered when the owners spoke at the first opening of the range. I’m sure you can contact them and they’ll give you the scoop.

There’s also a piece of private property as you enter off the road going to VCGHC (volusia county gun and hunt club) that was often leased out and used by various group like PSS Daytona owned by Dave McGrath. He’s a great guy. I suggest reaching out to him on their Facebook page. They can lead you in the right direction. That property used to hold monthly long range practices and occasional local PRS style matches. Range went out as far as 1200, but They primarily only used the areas that reached out to 1000. Now those matches will transition to VCGHC’s new range.

There’s also another group that does ELR/mile events. Different location but in the general area. They’re Facebook page is volusia long range shooting. they hold events often as well. Held one last Sunday.

Not sure where you’re at in the central Florida area. There’s other ranges around that may be closer to you. Just depends. I know a lot of people refer to a huge area of the state as central Florida.

I’m just north of Orlando, basically one of the suburbs.

A lot of people from that area come to shoot at this range. Unless I’m forgetting another range near north Orlando, I think VCGHC is the closest for you. Only other thing worth pointing out is they are currently limiting all guns to 30 cal and under with a max of 3200fps. Just an FYI. Not sure if that will change down the road. Again I would suggest reaching out to the club and or Dave from PSS. He and Kendall would be able to answer any questions about the range.

I hope to see you out there someday. I’m from Jacksonville and shoot there often. I’ve enjoyed the people who run it and those who attend. It’s a great environment.

Definitely! I actually still live in Jax. I’m in the middle of moving to Orlando for work.

Best of luck with the move.

If your move is slow or have reason to be back around the north Florida area there are a few other long ranges in this area as well. You stated you hadn’t been able to find a good long range. Not sure which ones you’re familiar with. The ones that I know of that are around the area are Saltwater shooting club in Hastings. It goes out to 770. There’s Bradford Sportsmen’s shooting farm in Graham Florida that’s out to 850.

Camp Blanding holds events on various ranges out to 1500. The Blanding Museum Facebook page would be your go to for those events. The local F class matches are shot there regularly on the 600 and 1k ranges, but obviously not open to the public as a base.

is it open all the time for active duty personnel?

Nothing in South Florida goes that far. Homestead goes to 500. Port Malabar in Brevard goes to 600.

yes not sure what happened website says only 600 now?
They apparently ended it a while back. Even back when I used to go there was talk of farmers complaining of impacts on their land. Assholes shooting at the 1000yd steel without knowing anything about doing so. It got reduced to 600 and then 600 with approval only after shooting a group at 300. It’s a shame too, that place used to be great. Some of the RSOs were fuckin loons (and some were awesome), but that’s at any range.

JTAC Ranch almost makes me excited to visit family in Tampa Bay once I get back. But then again, that involves me going to FL...ewww lol

Everglades, shoot as far as your line of sight allows. Nobody out there to enforce shit. Just gotta watch your step.

I’m not in FL anymore, but about 8 miles west of where turner river trail is off tamiami trail, about 15 minutes past loop road. Once you hit that halfway point between miccosoukee and naples, the man won’t go out there. Back in the day, we used to shoot at the end of Bird Rd in Miami. Things have changed.

We have a PRS match there this Saturday, 11 July, and we shoot out to 1300 yds at the Tradecraft range.

I got a membership at Altus and have been happy there. Those folks are top notch. Im also on the list for JTAC but I still thinks that place is a myth. I drive six hours to get toAltus and it’s worth it. Not a k but close

I could be wrong but I don’t think so. If one of the ranges is open like that I’ve never heard of it. I’m pretty sure all of their ranges have to be reserved through the base ahead of time as a group or organization.

Saltwater is my go to range. But you have to reserve the 750 lanes and they are only available during the week. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to get out there due to work.

yeah that’s definitely a problem w that range.

If you got a boat, run out to intl waters. Get a buoy with a target on it, drop it in the water and let it drift out. Its pretty challenging to shoot with the waves bobbing the target up and down and side to side.
With my luck I really would lose my rifle in a boating accident 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Hey guys, Has anyone been out to Shedd Farms. They have a range out to 1k. It’s by Lake Butler form what I gather, a little west of Raiford and East of Lake City. Has anyone ever shot there?

I know that there are a lot of privately owned farms and places similar to this that have the space to shoot long range and will do so with specifically invited people, but this is open to the public. Just want to know what someone who’s been there thinks of it.

Altus will have some more space to play with in the near future (After the Kestrel match in October, last I heard), but that's a pretty solid drive from OP's area.

Yep, SF sucks ass as a shooting sports location.

In fact it sucks for everything. I get the creepies every time I go there (Dade and Broward) to visit family and if it weren't for mom and dad I would never go at all.

There seems to be a wide open tract out by SW 157th ave bounded by la calle ocho on the north and bird road on the south. At least looks that way on google maps.....

About 1/2 mile north of coral way.
That area by bird is all residential now.

On the sat imagery you will find a rectangular retention pond, this spot is just west of that pond.

Yes, the Manatee Gun Club was restructured about three years ago. The 1020 yd range was a jewel but no more. Now you can shoot rifle from 100 yds-300yds and qualify to shoot at the 600 yd line!

Man if I lived in Florida, I'd buy a boat capable of international waters. Float myself out there on a nice day... set up floating targets... baabaaam.

Howdy,
I am new, new to the sport, new to the Hide.
I have been shooting TradeCraft, not a bad place, last 300yards on the road gets your truck/car/vehicle nice and muddy.
Nice range far as I can tell, but I am new.
My first range was FWC up in PB County, they have 100, 200 and a 300 waiting to open, busy place. Very nice tho.
I had four hits at 1000. Pretty happy, a spotter would sure help.

I left Florida in 2017, I’m in Frank’s neck of the woods now. Pawnee sportsman’s center has steel out to 1k, really hard to find croquetas though.
I have family in Larimer County. Might still be able to send rounds downrange. I've always wanted to hit Pawnee.

Yeah finding latin American food that isn't Mexican is pretty damned impossible outside of SoFL or NYC.

Spotter won’t make a huge difference with that ‘berm’. Nice hits though!
There is sand behind the silhouette I put there, next time to will place it better and drop it lower. I did find a wayward 6.5 in the starboard 1"x 2" holding the target up, I shot some of them (Hoping to spot on "splash" target, no love there) before switching to the .338 that hit the steel. Next weekend hopefully I will get it under control.
