So Ill be purchasing a new rifle in .308 probably either a Howa or Tikka when deer season rolls around. I've used exclusively Nikon prostaff my entire life. I always had a 3-9 magnification, because in NY in my county until recently, you couldn't use a rifle. Last year I purchased a Nikon 4-12 magnification for an AR. Once I got out to 200 yards it was pretty much a wrap for me. So I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a new scope? Id like a minimum, max magnification of 16. Also, I was leaning towards a First focal plain. budget is about 6-800. Not even sure if I could get a nice one for that. The guys at my local gunshop keep harping Hawke. But they are clearly getting money for selling thier products. Thanks everyone!

Is this for hunting or target use?
The Burris Veracity line seems like a good platform, I don't have experience with them, but I do have experience with the XTR II 3-15.
The Bushnell LRHS are dandy scopes, it is Japanese made and a bit more expensive than the Chinese made Athlon Midas Tac and Vortex Strike Eagle.
    I will tell you this:
I am currently looking at a 5-25 strike eagle that Vortex was kind enough to send me for review (professional courtesy).
The glass is good, the reticle is excellent. I find the ocular focus to be a bit touchy, but I have astigmatism and that is not uncommon. The parallax adjustment is stiff. It really looks promising, but Vortex has had issues with the robustness of their chinese made scopes.

Take a look at this here:
