Been a great few days. Not much cell reception 😁

Forecast from the ranger today called for 4” of rain and flooding.
So we packed camp up a day early and are in Spearfish.
Spending time tomorrow with my roommate from college.
Devils Tower Friday and see about heading part of the way back to Denver.

A few shots.

At the Trump Shop in Rapid City today, my kid really wanted the sweatshirt that said:

TRUMP 2020
No More Bullshit

I didnt think an 8 yr old sporting that shirt would be the most appropriate.
So I bought her the sticker! 🤣🤣

Tough chic can wear that sweatshirt💪🏼🇺🇸

At least I can take my bug motor out by myself in under an hour or two depending on how motivated I am. Nothing like a small block cheby though. Grew up on home built monster cars and never truly lost the passion. Have had many cars in the past but taking it slow getting into cars again with this bug. My brother built custom hotrods for over 20 years.
KISS Theory...... Keep It Simple Stupid.

Your first pic looks like somewhere in the Badlands, but I don't recognize it.

Pic 2 Needles Hwy, eye of the needle.
Pic 3 View from Harney Peak looking at Cathedral Spires.

Pic 4 looks like the old Kmart parking lot
Pic 5 buncha old stoned guys 🤣

Please tell me you went to First Stop Guns while you were in Rapid....

Devil's Tower is awesome. If you have time, Custer Battlefield is a bit north of there off of Hwy 212

Looks like my view is soon going to be of a reflux still. As part of our company closing / me being made redundant I found out that they have to pay me my next long service award as it would be due in the next few months. Award has to be taken as a gift not cash so I selected a Turbo T 500 Reflux still kit to make my own Bourbon flavored spirit. HR tried to tell me that it was not an appropriate gift so I changed the wording to read "Bourbon flavored hand sanitizer".
I should get it next week.

@Mike Casselton

First pic if from the Toadstool Geological formation near Ft Robinson in Nebraska.
Only 14 miles of gravel each way to go see it!
Small and quiet, but super cool place and cool to learn about the scientific history of how they became.

The Trump Shop was at the first exit coming in from the badlands, Love’s Truck stop.
We had headed to the badlands, but terrible rain (heavy to the point I had to slow down to 40 on I-90!) had us turn around. Was predicted to last all day. 😡

@barneybdb - well, havent froze my nuts off after flying halfway around the world, so there is that! 😁

We are pretty well prepared for camping in rain as far as gear.

Our campsite sucked for using that gear, just good enough for a flat spot for the tent. That flat spot was also at the bottom of a hill And Custer State Park didnt want me making a trench substantial enough to divert the water running downhill around our tent.

Its also hard to keep an overly energetic and busy 8 yr old occupied during heavy rain for many hours in a row....

Speaking of frozen nuts, we have had a few days recently down here of freezing temps in the morning and fog where I could not see six feet in front of the wagon. I should be almost 2000 miles North where the weather is much better dealing with my executor duties but our border closures have made it too hard. Our state is doing very well but travel interstate is not practical due to mandatory 14 day quarantine rules.

I gave something like this some long, hard consideration.

I came to the conclusion that I'd probably end up killing myself one way or the other, most likely tenderizing/sauteing my liver.......

Helped @8pointer and couple of other guys hang and fill feeders yesterday.

Stopped by the feed store and had a pallet of 50 bags dropped into the truck.

She's squatting a bit. Truck is 2WD, so it doesn't look as bad as it really is.
She sits like this empty.

The drive in on the bumpy and soupy-wet road was interesting. Just glad the truck doesn't have an open differential.

I have seen videos of that dragster running before. It is impressive he can pull that kind of power from a two piece block for sure. I can’t imagine how he has it fastened together.
This motor is no haus as it is just a simple 1641cc with standard 042 heads, 87.5 pistons and a super mild almost stock cam. My goal is to build another motor on the side that is far more aggressive, more than likely in the 2300cc range unless something changes my mind and I do a Subaru swap.

Mr. Rooster,

I'm sure you know of the Subi motor issues. Is there no better option or do you know a solid fix for the Subi engine. A buddy in Michigan has a dual port VW turbo. Wheelies.

It’s actually a toss up between two motor styles IF I do a swap. I would go with a subaru or an older two rotor mazda power plant. I have researched both conversions and think either would be appropriate. Rotary powered cars have always been neat in my head as well, and a 13B swap would be fun. I knew a guy growing up with a bug that would do wheelies, so staying with vw power is my goal. Seems all of the swaps that I have thought about have their own special issues. Of all those issues, vw powerplants are the easiest to work on probably.

So last night was interesting. Went to water some plants in the garden and scarred off a longish copperhead. Not wanting my youngest to walk out one night and get a unscheduled poison injection, I decided to get the judge and go find it. Long story short, I ended up killing 5 last nights and I do believe there are more that have made a den/nest somewhere in the area.

The Mazda is interesting. Never studied that much and don't have any first hand men that have.

Big CC dual port turbo hauls. Not exotic, but gets shit done. Throw money at it.😁

This afternoon or tomorrow morning is digging time with the tractor. I am pretty sure I know where they have made home based off where they were all found last night. These 5 were taken in about 30-45 minutes or less and four of them were within feet of each other so they had just began moving. Happened about 10 east coast time.

We are same zone. I've run into this before. Copper head den. 5 ain't all of them. Keep the kids safe. Don't tread lightly. Clean house.

Well. Late July storms are hellacious in South Dakota.
Camped in Spearfish town park campground on Thursday night. We hung out with my friend and his family until late that night. Storm hit around midnight with lightning so close I couldnt get to 2 on my count a few times. We were down below hills right beside us, but still freaked me out a bit.
Rained hard for 2 hrs, but good gear works and we were still dry come AM, though that dampness of insane humidity hung to everything.

Next AM was coffee and breakfast and off to Devil’s Tower. Amazing place.
After 3 nights of rain in a row and my kid becoming bored with me, we decided that after Devil’s tower we would hammer The 6 hrs (6.5 with traffic between Ft Collins and Denver) home for a shower and a real bed.
Last shot is my kid and I while we traversed the large boulder field on the west side of the tower.

I've been to Dearborn and a few others. Unfortunately, I never made the UP.

You get the TD version?

Went with the gas V6. For my daily driving style, I just couldn't do 186 horse. I know the torque is great on the diesel but for most of my needs the 6 cylinder with 308 hp is going to work best for me. Besides, I traded a 2017 Ford Focus St. I need to keep a little pep.
