Gentlemen. I recently joined a new range that turned on private memberships. They have steel out to 1 mile and would not be going further. I am looking at 3 options. Option one is an LRI gun in 300wm with 60 rounds fired has 27” 1:9 K&P barrel, trued 700 receiver, fluted bolt, no trigger or stock etc. would look at a KRG bravo and trigger in it for around 1950. Next choice would be an off the shelf Bergara HMR Pro in 300 prc for around 1975 or Bergara Ridgeback with triggertech and grayboe stock 300prc for around 2300. This is figuring brakes , rails and tax on Bergaras.
I am leaning LRI just for custom factor and shooting distance. I handload so it’s about a wash ammo wise and from my research here thanks to you guys a 300wm is plenty for steel out to a mile. Shooting is 600’ asl.

What are your thoughts if you were looking at these three?

LRI is know for building quality Rifles, me personally I’ve gone towards the 300 prc. For good reason. Good luck

Agreed. I have a couple of 338LMs and a 300PRC and over the last year the 300PRC is getting most of the trigger pulls. If you handload, some of the new pills are super in the mile+ range. 300WM can for sure get it done at a mile. In that price range you might want to look at the Bad Rock in 300PRC.

Either will be fine.
I have watched several 300PRC shooters hammer the hits at a mile. Have fun.

Ok. So it seems leaning to 300prc but both will perform at a mile.
So Bergara or entry level custom in 300prc or the barely used LRI in 300wm?

I have had, for quite a while now, a Surgeon Scalpel 300 Win Mag. Never had opportunity to take it past at 1,250 yards but it has been a great shooting rifle. I have no doubt it could make a mile. I have a couple of 30 caliber barrel blanks and intended on going 300PRC on this rifle over this winter. There is a fly in the ointment though. The 300WM still hammers!
My latest acquisition also kinda threw a wrench in. A 300 NM 35˚ Improved that I feel will be a perfect candidate for 1 mile and beyond.
I don't think you'd be wrong with either choice you make but I would personally take the custom over the Bergara.

Well I pulled the trigger on the LRI. Thanks for the input. If I’m not happy with 300wm swap it at the end of life.

Right now that's a good move, in my opinion. You can show up to the range with 5,000 rounds of .300WM. Or you can sit at home with the 0 rounds of 300PRC available in the country.
