Issue with 230 as I understand it, is how it has not been applied as written only broad interpretations to the benefit of these large social media companies.
They are somehow exempt from the same liability claims that apply to news oulets, ISPs and publishers.
Facebook, and twitter ARE publishers, since they do control the content they make available, searchable, etc. Once they step into managing potential content, they are no longer just a conduit for the content but an active participant.
Of course, they got billions to fight with, and politicians in their pockets, so I dont really expect much to happen. Just like the subpoena on twitter jack...means...jack shit.
I do believe however, and said as much that this whole ordeal would only expose them. They desperately took actions to regain footing of the narrative and it has backfired. People ARE waking up, slowly but you see it...real people like my man in the OP. Not the bots and fake twitterbook accounts. How many are REAL accounts versus bots or worse foreign influence? You do know that in the past, twitter has purged millions of accounts for being "fake". Thats just the tip of iceberg. Millions upon millions of fake accounts and AI bots infest these platforms. Spewing all kinds of propoganda and BS. Yet, twitterbook gives this largely a pass, so long as it aligns with their biases.
Sad.
Govt control isnt the answer and rarely is. But why not apply the already existing standards of 230 to the social media outlets? Makes no sense, but me thinks many people been getting PAID, bigly.
