Rifle Scopes Is there a better scope for this?

Just bought an ultralight AR10 (.308 WIN) that I wanna put glass on that can serve double duty as an 800 yard hunting scope and tactical defense for the Demozombie civil war. My first thought was a Trijicon1-8 Accupower but is there a better option?

Ideally the reticle (zeroed at 200 yards) can be used as a BDC for those quick shop opportunities in the field when you barely have time to range the game.

What do you want to spend is another thing to consider. What exactly would that be? Do you want a BDC or reticle? Mil or MOA? What are the ranges of use before that 800? 800 yards is quite a ways. By this I mean no disrespect and I mean not to imply that you don’t spend reasonable time there. The barrel looks short from the pictures and the gun is very light in a heavier caliber with more reciprocating mass than a 5.56 AR. The optics options for gas guns, I think, is so broad that some other info is needed to give good to better recommendations.

Yeah, I carry laminated ballistics cards with me. They show the adjustments in 25 yard increments using velocity confirmed ammo from the same lot. My R25 is dead accurate at 800 yards but weighs as much as a Prius. Not reading the menu from right to left but would like something small & light that doesn't sacrifice clarity, magnification or low light capabilities.

Option B would be to place a Dueck Defense rapid transition sight on it...I did that with my other AR10.

My AR-10 wears a March-X 1.5-15X42 SFP. It has a 20 inch barrel and I use it to compete at 600 yards. It's a little heavier than the 6 pound one here, and it still beats me up compared to my match AR-15s. I can just imagine what this 6 pound baby will do.

Nightforce NX8 1-8 if you are already looking at the Accupower.

I like magnification, so I put a Eotech 5-25 on my AR10

I hate Eotech, ripped one (with magnifier) off the R25 shown above. POS crapped out on me when I had four 300lb razorbacks 90 yards away. Grrrr.

What will the NF 1-8 do for me that the Trijicon 1-8 Accupower scope won't do beside cost 60% more?

I’ve never shot the Trijicon. Only the Nightforce so can’t help ya there.

Eotech Vudu scopes aren’t the same as the holographic sights. They are LOW glass if you like magnificaction in a small package.

So if I were to purchase this scope and zero it at 200 yards, which reticle would enable to easily adjust for distance (with accurate ballistics card) out to 800 yards without touching turret? When hunting you don't always have time to dope, need to select a hash mark and shoot in seconds. (Assumes maximum magnification).

Any reticle with milliradian or moa subtentions will do the job.

Do you understand the difference between first and second focal plane scopes? Because that will answer your question about magnification.

When are you ever going to take a shot in seconds at an animal beyond 250 yards or so? What do you do about compensating for wind deflection? How long does that take?

Jesus H Christ on a cracker…...

If you can't kill a 300 lb pig at 90 yds without relying on a magnifier, optics aren't the issue.

Scope wouldn't power up. Had nothing to do with the magnifier.

I can already tell people I own NightForce. Two in fact.

No "budget" per se...looking for the best value. Life's too short to read the menu from right to left. If forced to use this weapon in defense (civil war, rioters trying to burn my home down, etc.) then I want a scope up to the task. I don't wanna rely solely on a red dot ever again.

I really liked the VUDU 5X25 but they aren't offering MOAR so I'm back to where I started. Looking for a MOAR reticle that can be zeroed at 200 yards and use the hash marks to compensate out to 800 yards (in BDC style). In hunting situations you often do not have time to dope the scope, you must range the target, review a ballistics card to know your holdover and quickly fire. This would be at maximum magnification.
Any other suggestions?
