Looking for 1000+ in Florida

Thanks for all the info guys! I hung out at Volusia County Gun and Hunting Club this weekend for a PRS match. I will probably join up there.

I shot that match this wkend. I’m glad that VCGHC opened up the range, but I personally enjoyed the matches on the other side when Dave McGrath ran them. The matches weren’t always exactly the PRS format which was part of the reason why they were fun because the contained elements that were very different. Not knocking VCGHC because they’re great and Tucker and Kendal put together a good match, just wished the weather would have held up better. Both matches that they’ve held on the new range have been great. Hope they put a few more on the calendar soon. I’m sure the range will only improve as time goes on as well.

Yeah when the weather shifted is when I headed out. It was definitely a lot of fun to get out there and meet some people

Spotter won’t make a huge difference with that ‘berm’. Nice hits though!
Haha. Right. It’s tough to keep the berms cleaned off because the vegetation grows so fast down here. Had a huge brush fire no to long ago and you can’t even tell it now.

So how was the new range at Volusia? They don't have much on their website other than that it is only open two days a week and is $100 for non members to shoot  They got steel out? Do you put your own targets out? I got a shitty little car without much clearance so that is pain unless they rent golf carts like Bradford does. Saw this range layout pic on Precision Shooting Services Facebook page....

It was really impressive, I was out there during a match so I’m not sure how it is setup during the normal shooting days. @ACW39 would probably know better than me. There is another event out there next month that I’m working towards competing in so if you want to come out feel free to come scope it out!

They have steel out at each of the berms. They also have a covered deck/tower and all the platforms available that are used for stages during matches. They have a road that goes right to the range but it’s pretty beat up so they also have a side lot that’s a few hundred yards away that you can park at. They require everyone to park there during matches. So I would suggest bringing a cart to carry your stuff if u have one. If not the RO has a 4 wheeler that they often help people take stuff to and from the range and their vehicle.

VCGHC has worked hard to get the range in order and I know that they’re continuing to work to improve it. It’s a new endeavor for them so they’re ironing out issues as they arise, but they have great people helping like Dave McGrath from PSS, Kendal Simpson, and Tucker Schmidt among others that are there helping the range evolve. Personally compared to Bradford it’s a lot better.

I think their website does have a few pics of the tower and some of the other stage platforms. But I included the only two pictures I have that show down range what it looks like from the shooting area. I think if I can recall they have rail ties, tank traps, roof, tires, pipes, lattice, stairs, PRS barricade, and a truck. I know you’ll have to qualify to shoot it. I’m sure depending on who is the RO and how many other people are there and how comfortable they are with you, that they will let you practice simulated stages if you ask. They’re a good group of people. You just have to build the relationship.

Mostly the horse meat market.
I talked with him the day after the two were arrested so I didn't press for details.
We were kinda busy playing golf and didn't want to sour the mood.

That’s what I would think, that meat would be the primary reason for all of it.

Haha. It’s Adam. Wow what a small world. Haha. The odds.
Hey Adam, this is Mike. I miss the ease and format of our previous cow pasture, but am glad that least we still have a decent place to shoot long range.

I think that Adam covered it pretty well already. Once you’re there, it’s a great place to shoot steel. They also often have some paper at 100 yards for zeroing and verification of ability.

Haha. What’s up Mike! I agree nothing like having to herd cattle before and during a match! The matches were great though. I think Dave needs to put one together every now
and again just to mix it up.

You nailed it though, we have a great place to shoot and great people run it. I think the community of shooters and people who run everything are part of what makes it so great. I was talking to Joe at OTM about two weeks ago and somehow the conversation brought up PSS and he was bragging about how even though he’s never met her he always enjoys doing business with PSS because of how great Lisa McGrath is. I think it’s a testament to the type of people in the community and those who run the show. I’m always promoting PSS and VCGHC to people looking to get into the sport or just wanting to have some fun shooting.

I’m afraid that Dave doesn’t have a lot of choice now. We cannot run a match in the field anymore due to a non-compete situation. I don’t know, maybe Dave and I can run one of our non-PRS matches at VCGHC. We are members there of course.

On a separate note, I am finally getting back on track and will likely start running some LR .22 matches at the 300 yard range again. I seem to recall that you liked those. I welcome your input.

Not sorry!! Hahaha. You need to get another gun anyways!! There’s no such thing as to many. It’s a cycle. Work hard, earn money, buy gun and accessories, shoot them, rinse and repeat. Plus it’s a different challenge that has a lot of fundamental similarities, but enough differences that make it a lot of fun and challenging. Plus Mike puts on great matches!!!

Dang I do remember talking about it now that you say that. Bummer, but it’s all good. I enjoy the new place and matches as well.

You definitely have to get the .22 matches up and running again!! They are a blast. Especially since ammo, powder, bullets, and the likes are all becoming a pain to find or are pricey. It would be a fun way to get trigger time in and work on the skill set without burning a huge hole in the pocket.

Oh trust me I have quite a few. Just picked up a Steyr M95 (project), and finished off my AR9 and 223 Wylde builds. We gotta get together when the new scope comes in, I’ll bring a wide variety of things to test out. Plus my guys in Jax don’t go anywhere without their AKs.

Can never have to many guns. Count me in, a I’m always down for a good range day. That glass should be coming in soon, right?? You’re truly going to have a lot of fun getting that dialed in and just in time for the December match.

Should be here next week or the week after. The mount, throw lever, and bubble level are already here so it’s just going to be getting it mounted and then getting it zeroed in.

About 1/2 mile north of coral way.
That area by bird is all residential now.

On the sat imagery you will find a rectangular retention pond, this spot is just west of that pond.

I live not to far from wher you took this pic. (kendall). I have a ruger precision rifle 300wm that I'm itching to stretch its legs. But don't know anyone or where.

Lol, the way things are going in south Florida, God knows how much longer it will remain gun friendly.
