My dad and I are looking for a handy rifle for the farm, something to plink with maybe shoot a beaver/dog/coyote. Leaning towards a 357/38 lever action and put my octane 45 on it, I think the smaller caliber would be more fun than a 30-30/ cheaper that a 44. I have a 300 blackout and larger stuff for deer. Looking for a more classic style gun, bolt/lever, he's not into the model stuff or I would get a MP5 clone. What am I missing?

I'll be honest, when I read your first post that ended with "...a classic gun..." and then scrolled down, I chuckled a bit. (that is a good looking lever gun all dressed up to party)
However, I was also going to suggest the Ruger American Ranch in 5.56. It's not going to scratch that pistol cal subsonic itch that you've got, but it's a solid little rifle.

Ha yeah I realized that after I posted it, I really just mean not a semi auto/AR platform. 223 bolt gun is up on the list.
