Range Report Berger 109’s range report after a year

Applied Ballistics bullet library lists the 109 at .310 G7 BC.

It sounds like its not really getting that?

Here's what it imported into the AB app on my phone..

Interesting. I’ll look at the app.

FWIW, I use the custom curve and I haven’t had to do anything except input my actual MV. No truing at all and it’s been perfect to 1100 for over a year now. Different lots and guns.

When I take that data and use a g7, the box .292 lines up for me.

I’ve heard of up to .304-.306 for some guys. But I haven’t seen it in person to compare to my stuff directly.

What chronograph do you use?

So I actually just pulled it out of the AB library again, and its been changed. The one I screenshotted above i downloaded a while back and hadn't updated it. It downloaded as the Berger Long Range Target Hybrid with a .310 G7 BC.

The one I went and pulled last night downloaded as the Berger LRHT with a .292 G7 BC. So they modified it at some point.

Mystery solved..

Have 200 rnds of once fired Peterson dasher. The first firing went well. Haven’t gotten into the second firings yet, so I can’t say for sure. But I expect it to do well based on other Peterson brass I’ve used.

I have started running EC tuners on all my barrels. So I just set a jump like .020 and then adjust via tuner instead of seating depth. I wouldn’t imagine them being hard to tune as I rarely had issues with any bullet before I was running a tuner (most issues I see stem from shooters not having a proper plan for tuning).

I set these 109’s at .030 jump and they were about .4-.5 moa with that. I used the EC Tuner and dialed them to about .3moa. That took me about 20 rounds to get it dialed in.
Thanks for the info on the jump length on the 109's for dasher. I started w .015 jump and am working my way up to .045, but I have that .030 jump is a good sweet spot. Asking so that I can learn, did you start at .010 or something like that and work your way to .030 to find .030 was the best? Thanks again!

I'm running an EC tuner. So I don't mess with jump testing for PRS. I use the tuner in place. I'll just measure to touch and come back .020 or .030 and then use the tuner. It basically does the same thing we would do with seating depth. Instead of timing the bullet to the barrel, we time the barrel to the bullet.

If I was doing a jump test, I'd go like .010 off to start, then increase in either .003, .005. or .010 increments. Probably .005. I'd load 3 round tests at each seating depth. I'd take the first two shots of each 3 round volley and if the holes aren't touching, I move on without shooting the 3rd. If they touch, I'll shoot the 3rd. You'll see a pattern, groups will get smaller and smaller, then start getting larger. If the groups got small enough for your requirements and had enough room for some throat erosion, you're done, load in that seating node. If not, keep going, the pattern will have the groups getting larger and larger, then going small again, until getting larger yet again. Keep doing this until you find a large enough node where the groups were acceptable. Then load on the long side of that minus .001 (for seating discrepancies) and you're done for a while.

Or get an EC tuner and never do seating depth tests again for PRS.

I too have had excellent results with the 109 Bergers. Extremely consistent.

Shooting out of my 6GT with H4350. Recent match stage hit 6 for 6 dead center at 1022 and 1222.

I'm on the same lot, so we shall see.

Anyone successfully running these in a XC? Consider the 109’s when I’m finished with my DTACs. No issues with DTACs so far just looking for something new.

I use them in 6x47. So, should be fine.

What is your barrel length?

How have those Hawk Hill barrels been working out? I hear amazing things about them.
They are great shooters. Wouldn't hesitate to purchase again (I have two). Recently placed in the top 10 on a recent match with a virgin barrel.

Great interview of Shawn Burkholder on Precision Rifle Media Episode 161 to understand where and how the barrels are made. Check it out.

FWIW, I have and use barrels from Stuteville and Brux, as well.

Thank you so much. I shoot w several guys that are running Hawk Hill barrels w amazing results. These guys are good shooters and like you (NiteQwill) have run other barrels as well. Good stuff! Thanks again!
