Hey all,

Hope everyone had a good thanksgiving,

So after shooting my Sako P94S Range a good bit, I really REALLY like it.

I have the 22, 223, 308 and a few in betweens covered.

Is there a 338LM version of the P94S?

I know there is the TRG, however I’d like less plastic and spectactical, more like the wood stock on the P94S range.

Thoughts?

The closest you'll come is a Tikka T3x Sporter if you are looking for something new-ish. Not available in 338 LM though.

If you are specifically looking for a wooden "sporter" stocked rifle a custom made stock is probably necessary.

Maybe the old Palma shooters used wooden stocks and you could find something to your liking there?

There is a guy in Germany that has had made a wood replica of his TRG stock. Very nice walnut.

I know woox does a tikka inlet not sure about if they would have exactly the inlet you want but they do a mixture of wood and aluminum chassis might work depending on what model you want. If you go Remington pattern then you also have foundation stocks as an option not wood but similar look.

That looks also like a hunting profile, if I’m looking at the same rifle.

Was there ever a older TRG with stock like the P94 range?
Wood, adjustable LOP and cheek, rails, etc?
Not for 338 LM. The TRG-42 was created for that. Before the 22/42 there were 21/41 chambered in 308/300WM respectively.
When the 338 LM was requested for use, SAKO extended the action by a bit to make room for it. With a few other changes it became the 22/42.

If you are looking for a target stock for a TRG-42, then Finnland might be the place to look for it. Send the guys at Finn Accuracy a mail.

They might be able to point you in the direction where you could get something like this made.

For what ever action you choose.

NICE!

Thanks

As much as I like a chassis rifle, the wood on my P94 really has grown on me

Now wonder if you could get just a TRG42 action, trigger and barrel

Or if there is a better option I’m missing.

You're welcome.

You do want the rail/backbone as well, so get a complete 42. You might also like it well enough so that this idea about a wood stock becomes superfluous.

A lot of guys would tell you to get a custom action from a reputable US manufacturer.
I'm not one of them... 😉

My initial plan was a 338 defiant/proof.

always had this 3 gun idea, 0-600, 600-1000, 1000+

I have a nice JP 18” heavy CTR02, custom everything, with a 18x swarovski and offset red dot that was my to 600yrds rifle, love that rifle

Tikka tac with a vortex 5-25, masterpiece arms grip, yoyo spring and little bastard brake, this fills in for out to 1k (best I’ve had it to was 870ish insert excuse for the drive to a good range)

With everyone hording ammo in their toilet paper forts, and a local nice 100yrd club, I decided I wanted to build a NRL22 gun, got the P94S range with the same reticle as the tikka, but in the 15x vortex

Figure the last step the the 1k + rifle, and with my experience with Tikka and the Sako 94, when it comes to bolt action Sako is just so smooth and accurate, I’m becoming a fan.

No. The 41 and 42 are the same size and both available in 338lm.

As for the OP, lots of similarly stocked rifles in the older models of Sako and Tikka, none in 338lm unfortunately. TRG stocks however, have always been synthetic.

Apparently there is a Sako M595 Master Sporter, wonder if that could be worked with...

Not a Sako and not manufactured in 338LM.

Tikka 55/590/595 Are all short actions. 65/690/695 are the long action models but still not big enough for 338LM.

The 590/690 is the one to get. It's a beast.

Regular magnums, 300wm for example, works allright. But then there is the T3x Sporter.

Wonder if that stock probably would be able to take a TRG action?
