On a Sako bolt action, I’ve been storing it bolt closed, pin down (slowly rotating the bolt locked while holding down the trigger).

Is this the best way to store the rifle?

I’ve always stored my 308 bolt this way, also stored my ARs hammer down.

Last question, I noticed I have a slight non shiny spot where I guess the firing pin touches, outside from it being dull looking on the chamber, there is no dent or anything. Anything to be concerned with there?

Thanks

*yeah, I know, overthinking it

I store them that way also too, not overly concerned about it but I've heard it is the best practise.

I also have some spots near my chamber, where the bolt touches I guess. Many dry fires have occurred and I cannot see anything that would indicate a pin strike. I guess it is your bolt contacting your barrel at that point.

So probably nothing to be concerned with eh?

Yeah it’s mostly just a mark, I can MAYBE feel it with my fingernail if I really try, but it’s faint enough when I first saw it I tried to wipe it off.

Can you post few pictures?

Forgive the crappy photo

its probably a tiny bit of lead from the occasional bullet rubbing on the corner of the chamber as you close the bolt, and the pressure of the bolt sticks it to the barrel. similar to, but nowhere near as bad as the mess you have from the 5 oclock to 9 oclock positions.....

Yeah, I got to get a new brush, mine went AWOL.

You might want to fix the reason it is leading, these tips might solve it completely

The mag in the P94S is a little different. I’m thinking that lead was due to me using some federal “target” ammo a friend gave me, normally I don’t get that much with the Eley or SK.
