Deprime while resizing ?

Some people love to reload...I ain't one of them

I load thousands of rounds of match ammo every year and have never seen the benefit to depriming then cleaning then resizing only to have to clean again to get the lube off... It's stupid....

If your brass is dirty wipe it off then size and deprime that shit too easy

Edit...oh and cleaning primer pockets is stupid too lol

How dirty do you consider 'dirty,' and how do you wipe it off? When I learned it was 'don't shove dirty brass into your dies' but I'm leaning more and more towards 'less is more' and 'surely a little carbon can't hurt a hardened steel die.'

im with @Huskydriver i have not cleaned a primer pocket in 10yrs...i load 98% of my ammo on a dillon 750 the only time i dont is when i do load development.

Thirded. I actually tested this, on the fourth round of loading I ultra sonic cleaned just the primer pockets on some brass, and shot the others in all their dirty glory. Average velocities and SD were within 1 fps, with near identical group sizes.

If there is sand or dirt stuck to the case and its just a few cases, I will wipe them off with a towel then run them.

If I shot a match in the rain and the whole lot is muddy or whatever, I will toss it all in the tumbler for 30 min with the primers still in. Whip the media out real quick in the seperator, lube and get to work

With over 40 years of reloading behind me, I decap, tumble and then resize. The tumbling usually is enough for me to clean out the primer pockets. They are not spotless, but good enough.

Haven't tried out the wet method with stainless media yet, something for the future.

So you guys who resize after cleaning wtf are you doing to get the lube off your cases after sizing?
Cleaning it off. Again.

I prefer to look at it as I dont wait until the end of the day before I wipe my ass, I do it as needed before I put my pants back on multiple times per day.

Yeah, I'll clean twice too. I'll use different media between the 2 cleanings. Dirty stuff for the first go around, then something newer/cleaner/less used media for the 2nd go around. And the second is always just vibrate.

Yea....I don't have time for that haha!

I anneal then chuck 200 cases or so into a gallon ziploc, spray it down with lanolin and alcohol.

Next I throw 50-75 of those into the hopper on the dillon. I FL size, deprime, trim, expand case mouth in one pass on the 650...I can process 800-1200 cases an hour depending on how froggy I feel.

Light chamfur on the mouth with the frank. Arsenal prep station...

Brass then goes into the tumbler with course grit walnut blasting media with nufinish and a dryer sheet. Very rarely does a piece get into the flashhole with this size media.

Inspect case heads and web after media seperation

Swap tool heads on the 650 to load. The brass goes back into the hopper. Brass gets primed, powder thrown in by hand with the V3, then seated. Can process about 300 rounds an hour here with outsanding minimal runout.

Fastest process I have tried to date to keep me out of the reloading room and on the range more haha.

Got 4 kids I need my range time....

What's the dryer sheet do? Never tried that.

Got my son working the brass now too! He's doing all the depriming now, and no complaints..... yet :)

FWIW I deprime first, wet tumble in SS pins, dry in a toaster over for 30 min (if I plan on loading that day), use @Strykervet case lube, resize, wipe with a paper towel, trim, chamfer, debur, prime, throw powder, seat bullets, shoot, repeat.

I don’t want the primer gunk in my press.

I know that I am going to take some heat for this. Hear it goes. 6 Creedmoor.
tumble brass
lube
load on a Dillon 550
drop powder on a Chargemaster use Dillon powder funnel
seat bullet
tumble loaded ammo to remove lube
off to the range. SD single digits
Bullet run out .001
All done.
Let the hate begin.

I use Imperial Sizing Wax, sparingly and wipe off with a rag. Takes less time to wipe it off than it does to put it on. I love shooting but not a fan of hand loading but it's a necessary evil. I also deprime while resizing. The least amount of steps I can do the better. That works for me but obviously there are more than one way to skin a cat.

I deprime, ultrasonic clean for 25mins, quick dry in a salad spinner, resize, expander mandrel, then ultrasonic for another 25mins. Fairly quick process

I’ve done it both ways. That said if I’m reloading brass from the suppressed semi auto, or stuff that got really dirty, I deprime and then tumble before resize.

Dry-tumble (3+ hours, I use a timer on the plug), Nu-finish, dryer sheet
Spray lube w/ lanolin-alcohol mix (10:1 ratio)
F/L size
Expand necks
Dry tumble 20-30 minutes (I keep some old media around specifically for this, rather than muck up the good stuff)
Trim/chamfer/debur (Giraud)
Clean/uniform primer pockets (if I'm feeling industrious)

At that point, the brass is cleaned and prepped, ready to load. For the stuff I do on the 550 with two toolheads (and prime on-press), I have the second toolhead set up with a decapping die in hole #1, just to make sure that there's nothing in the flash-hole.

Deprime
Tumble in walnut with nufinish and dryer sheet
FLS with expander removed
Neck size with a Lee Collet die (I did remove the decapping pin from this die)
Prime
Throw powder with drop and trickle on a beam scale
Seat bullet

Not the fastest but it works.

I tumble first(vibratory)
Anneal
decap Lee universal decaper
size with bushing die and bump shoulder back .002" Imperial sizing die wax
expander mandrel. These 3 above op's done on a 550.
Wipe off lube with a paper towel
Prime with Lee hand priming tooling put in loading block
Charge with Autothrow V3 and Area 419 funnel and set bullet on top of case while Autothrow running next charge.
seat bullet on a rockchucker.

I could prime on the 550 and eliminate a handling, may try this

what the deal with the 419 funnel?

almost identical to my process.

The 419 funnel fits over the case neck with very close clearance, doesn't allow any powder to leak between funnel and case neck.
Also has a 4" drop tube on it so it packs the powder in when your dropping close to case capacity. There expensive but worth it in my opinion. Machined from aluminum and has adapters for various cartridge neck sizes.
