Anyone have details? Reading into the repost from Applied Ballistics, I’m guess Vortex will be releasing Fury 5000 AB. Maybe some other improvements.

looks like it's launching tomorrow so we'll have specs then. Sounds plausible if AB is sharing it.

    I am buying one...

The Sig 2400bdx rangefinder works great linked to my Garmin, but I wanted the Fury Bino instead of Sig bino.

Wow they're proud of that one.

When you factor in AB, bino, and rangefinder, its a good value. Besides, street value is always lower.

Have you seen the Swaro and Leica rangefinders?

Yeah but they don't put swaro glass in these. Gen 2 was viper level glass with a blue/green tint.

I'm sure they made improvements in the glass on this one. Just not going to expect UHD glass.

EuroOptic has the pre-order at $1,500, which is kind of an odd place for these binos unless they've received a substantial upgrade in "glass". It's not too hard to find the previous model of Leica Geovid HD-Bs for about $2k during certain times of year, not to mention demo/refurb units. The Sig 3000's could be had for about $800 around the holidays, and were ~$900(ish) normally when I was checking.

Is there some functionality that these Vortex units have that the Sigs don't? And/Or, did the Vortex get a substantial upgrade in coatings or something? The last couple Fury's that I looked at were pretty bad with the blue-ish tint in one barrel, but maybe these are better?

The AB solver is definitely better that the Leica solver. But to me, the vortex either needs to compete with the Sigs at the ~$850 price point, or they need to have made a big jump in the "glass" department to get closer to the Leica's to warrant a ~$1,500 price.

I haven't found any details on the glass yet, but there are a few new features, as taken from the EuroOptic site:
    • In-display wind/drop solution
    • Wind Bearing Capture Mode
    • Onboard compass
    • Onboard sensors for humidity, barometric pressure, and temperature

With that on board then no need for Kestrel beside to gather wind speed. The Vortex video said same optical and rangefinder components. One area I see the whiffed on was connect the to the Kestrel HUD, you must connect to 5700 Elite then connect the 5700 to the HUD.

That's a function of the way the HUD/Kestrel work. Frankly it's a failure on the NK side. Just like the kestrel HUD remote wire, which is a quarter inch thick and has a set of buttons the size of a silver dollar. Utterly useless on the rifle since you can't find a place to put it where you can use it.

I too would have liked to see a UHD level option, something to compete (albeit they still wouldn't compare glass wise) with Leica rather than something to compete with Sig. Also a little surprised that these are capable of connecting to a phone app, yet no mention of the ability to connect to Hornady's *free* 4DOF app, which I am left to assume means it can't be done at this time. Maybe with a future firmware update.

So does the Fury AB have a weather station on board like the 2400abx? If so that's enticing if not, it will have to be a substantial glass upgrade to warrant me moving from the Sigs.

Since it's using AB engine, it will never connect to 4DOF. AB products communicate with a proprietary BT protocol that's part of their licensing.

    Yes,
    • Onboard compass
    • Onboard sensors for humidity, barometric pressure, and temperature

These run in the AB Protocol so they will have a Vortex app. They will also connect to devices inside the AB Ecosystem and utilize the AB Protocol.

Does the SIG have onboard sensors? I was trying to search the site on the 3000 bdx and how it compares.

Only Inclinometer and maybe compass. The Sigs rely on a kestrel or phone app to get the environmentals. Plus the Sigs only run AB Ultralite unless you pair it with a 5700 Elite.

I was searching for that too, so Fury can do > 800 yards unlike the Sig (if you're not paired with a Kestrel). That's nice.

Sigs = AB Ultralite Engine, AB Elite when paired to a Kestrel Elite, Garmin Fortrex 701, or Garmin Tactix Delta Solar with AB.
Vortex = AB Elite Engine. Will also pair with the Garmin and Kestrel devices.

That was my biggest gripe with the previous Fury, blue tint, not a big deal for a "range" rangefinder, but want something I could take into the bush and scan for critters and the blue tint bugged the heck out of me for that. What makes you think they made improvements, this is the Fury line which means Fury glass, I would not think there is much of an upgrade, but I would gladly pay $500 more for a Vortex Razor HD/UHD Fury 5000 equivalent to get the better glass. Hopefully that is coming and Vortex is trying to enter the market low which is wise at this time.

So then it comes down to whether or not the wind feature is calculated by the laser itself
It can use bearing for wind and probably have preset wind holds like 5/10mph at that bearing. It works well for giving you an idea. Looks like it will have full ballistics and barometrics.

Compared to the sig kilo 3000 only has ballistics light.

Then not quite the tech I was hoping for, but should be able to give the Kilo 3000 a run for it's money, yes the Vortex is more expensive but it's brand new tech, possibly better tech, whereas the Sig is older, leaves the door open for a Sig upgrade I'm sure. I see Sig and Vortex frog hopping each other for a while. Still hoping for either one to come out with an upgraded glass unit for a few hundred more that would better compete with Leica, Zeiss and Swaro.

Seems to work well. Idk if I’ll get rid of my kestrel but I’ll probably sell my kilo for this if it pans out. The ability to have the weather station in the binocs and AB elite without having to wait to pair or reconnect with the kestrel will sell it alone for me. Sometimes it takes to dang long to connect to the kestrel. If i can have an accurate solution solely through the binocs that is awesome.

Leica can be had for a bit more and its not made of chicom.

Better glass, better laser and i would assume better durability.

As said above, Leica's do not use AB. The newer versions can BT to a Kestrel, and they can also utilize a 'custom' ballistics card using Leica's in-house solver (which I think is just a basic PM solver?). The HD-Bs will read temp & pressure. Like I said previously, I prefer the AB solver to Leica's solver. BUT once I program an SD card for the Leica, my HD-B's are typically exactly the same or within one tenth of my 5700 Elite.

You are still going to need a kestrel either way so explain to me why it matters.

Smashing a bunch of cheap chicom electronics in a device with shitty glass used to resolve/range targets at long distance may sounds faster/easier on paper, but give me the quality product. The one that in 5 or 10 years I can still run. If these were $500 then yea maybe give them a shot since they will be toast in a few years. But $1500? You are into Euro and high end Jap territory.

We all have seen how unreliable and the error rate on various LRFs. Wiz bang features are useless when you have a 25% error rate.

The new 3200.com are significantly more capable than the legacy HD-B,s with a housing similar to the Swaro EL's. I ran the Swaro, the 3200 and the Ziess Victory side by side and while the swaro had the best glass and ergos, the other two were right there with it.

Well if I can have my custom AB profile in the Vortex, and IF it works, then I don't even need to pull out the Kestrel. I can just range and write dope down on stages.

And for those who haven't done the upgrade to the Kestrel elite, this saves them the $550 too.

@Secant no one has gone to the vortex site, read the manual, nor watched the videos and it is infuriating. It also shows with a lot of the questions / statements.

For square range shooters these are not that groundbreaking, but for UKD & field matches, hunting, etc you now no longer need a Kestrel and your dope card can only be for backup.

The lack of a stud and mount option on the Leica 3200’s is what keeps people away.

I said stud and adapter, which can’t be done because the laser on the Leicas is where the stud would go.

This. It's one less thing i have to carry into the field or wait to connect.

Lots of good info in the videos on Vortex's website--and the instruction manual, lol, RTFM! :geek:
