I think I have an infallible solution that will always give a perfect answer!

Anything that you can still find reloading supplies or ammo for. Tough for everything right now though!

6.5x 47 - cool. works dandy.

.260 cool loved my old one. Wish I hadnt sold it.

6.5 Man Bun - used to have an edge due to availability of cheap factory ammo that was plenty accurate. Now, edged out by on the shelf availability of .260 and 6mm Skinny Jean.

Once, Zak from TBAC wrote an article comparing the popular 6.5’s (above) that share the .473 boltface. Worth reading.

260 Remington, because..., I can't always get 260 brass, but when I can't, I can sometimes get 7-08 or 243; which are so very close enough that simply running them through a F/L die transforms them into usable 260 Rem brass. Often the 7-08 and 243 are cheaper, too. These days, all my 260 brass starts as HDY 7-08.

Also, here in 2021 I've been shooting it for just over two decades, it's easy to load develop for, and can utilize a variety of bullets and powders. My preference is for 140 Speer Gold Dot and H-4350. I shoot bullets ranging from Speer 90 TNT's to Speer 140 Gold Dots.

Apparently nobody has a 6 mm Creedmoor near me I can find a ton of that everywhere I go. Thinking about ordering a 6 mm Creedmoor barrel for my AI..... Of course with my luck as soon as I do I won’t be able to find the ammo....😁

6.5/06 I shoot that and love it. You HAVE to roll your own as it is not loaded by any source that I know of.
Barrel life is not too great but you can put less powder in and stretch them along.
You can get them going faster than I want them to go and my preferable brass is 25/06 but I do use 30/06 brass as well.
Shoots better than my Creedmore with comparable barrels, just goes a bit faster and shoots flatter.

Do any of you have some old 30/06 brass around? It works.

I'm going with a .264 Creedmoor from here on out the 6.5 Creedmoor has a bad name in a lot of circles.

Nah the Creedmoor in the name still gives it away, you have to call it the 26 TC.

I shoot and run a 260 with truly remarkable accuracy. I do want a 6.5x47. My vote goes to 260 ai, 260 rem abs the 6.5x47

Wow. I prefer the 260 to the 6.5CM, but why all the angst against the 6.5CM?

If I hadn't been shooting the 260 for nearly 2 decades, I'd probably be using the 6.5CM myself.

I've considered the 6.5/06 for a long time, but stayed with the 260, mainly because of barrel life. 6.5/06 is basically the same idea as the 260, ,just based on the next smaller cartridge. In so doing, I think it sidesteps the caveats you point out in your post.

I use 243 and 7-08 brass, Maybe you could also use .25/06 and .280 but they may not be as easy to acquire. How about a 6.5/06AI, based on the .280AI?

Smokin'!

Greg

PS I thought the 6.5G was going to be a simple thing, and it could have been. But, silly me; I thought I could get away with loading it at and beyond the limit. Not so. Most definitely not so. I go lost reading about what the bolt rifle guys were doing it, but wth the AR, the 6.5G is a very different critter.

6.5/06 will give you more than enough velocity, and I load mine down to get to 2950 hoping for some bore life.

Old components, that you may have on hand, are 25/06 brass, nice, or 30/06, or 270 brass and who can't find some of the shit? if you have any experience at all shooting?

It does what I want it to do and that is shoot fast and flat and not exceed the speed limits.

With lead times of many months, I am ordering a new barrel today and by the time it gets here, I will be ready for it. FM

The only downside of using 6.5/06 is that you have to roll your own, but aren't we all doing that anyway?

I know of nowhere that you could buy 6.5/06 ammo already loaded. You make it yourself or you don't have ANY.

I think that I'll have the gunsmith mark my new barrel as the .264 Creedless, or 6.5 Manbun.

Any other ideas before I commit?

Not sure if serious or resting slav face.
Hi,

Is there a difference, lol.

Sincerely,
Theis

6.5x284 is a laser. It is also a barrel burner

personally I love the 6.5x55. Why it’s over a 100 years old and that’s cool and I love my M96. But in a modern action loaded to its potentially it is every bit a creedmoor or 260 and some. And check out the price of 6.5x55 lapua brass compared to creedmoor or 284

If you want x284 performance but double the barrel life rechamber in 6.5 ADIDAS the reverse taper of the cartridge really helps with the barrel life.
