Let me preface this with - I know somewhere between jack and shit about knives. Even though there were mega points on the Team Board for 'knife someone', my closest combat experience with a knife was watching some tard mount some gigantic and unauthorized knife on a leather sheath on his belt, catch the handle of a door jamb while running through and having it twist and stab him in the side/back of his thigh.

If you were going to get into a knife fight with me, I'd probably just shoot you, because all I'd have is whatever shitty 1.5 inch blade comes on a Leatherman multi tool.

So with all of that said, help me along on my first unnecessary tacticool expedition where I finally get to feel like the total noob sandwich asking a question they have no fucking idea about. Also, pictures of you in your field gear are greatly appreciated.

So here is what I'm after to see if we can get it to work well, or if itll just be a rolling dumpsterfire.

On my pistol belt, I use a Safariland 6004 shroud with a Safriland holster attached to it. Shroud looks like this:

    1615079978960.png

What I am trying to do, is to find a decent sized knife (but not some gigantic survival thing or some 900$ custom deal) as well as a sheath that will secure it, where the sheath has a loop that I can thread the belt that the shroud is on through, and then attach the sheath to the 2 vertical holes in the shroud on the forward side.

I'm looking for suggestions on both, but dont need some giant knife or tacticool bulky as fuck sheath. Any ideas?

P.S. - Why are knife people so weird?

Here for the field gear pics!

What type of knife do you want?

For general purpose the Kizlyar Trident D2 is actually pretty nice. It is like a
    KA-BAR and a M3 had a baby with a full tang.

I can't even picture what the hell you want to do to secure it to your doo dad, but I'd suggest the Winkler Operator knife. Then you can continue your Operator reputation, and the knife is basically a nice steak knife, and great for opening mail, slicing pfefferwurst and skinning a deer. The sheath, which is leather over kydex, can be secured a million ways, so you can probably figure it out.

Thats made in Russia, you spy, you.

The other trick is, so if I find a knife, chances are it wont have a sheath that does what I want it to and/or retention on it will suck. How do I fix that problem?

Ninja stars are a solid option and should always be carried on first line gear.

That being said. An esee knives Esee 3 or 4 is a solid option as a general purpose knife. Quality build and materials and you won't cry if you bang it up. If you want something spiffier Halloran knives does good work.

How long of a blade do you want? You can probably secure a moderately sized kydex sheath to those grommets with woven paracord. That’s how we typically attach them to our carriers

You could make your own sheath with kydex. If you are willing to go to that effort.

    Here, I made this.

Ninja stars.. nah. But if you figure out a good way to carry three acejet stump hunters on there, you'll be set. Oh and make sure to pick up that RMJ in the sale area to mount on your back, handle up, because reasons.

I'd need a loop thought for the belt wouldn't I? Otherwise would it just start trying to flap around if only one side was secured?

But...where would I put my halligan then?

Here's an example of another guy doing this, but his custom(?) holster is only attached via the holster body. I'm guessing it flaps when he runs which is what I;m trying to avoid.

The other concerns are, I think the handle is too big, and it doesnt look like theres barely any retention to it (but could be something inside we're not seeing).

Honestly, something like a Becker BK 16 and an AZWelke kydex sheath would be perfect for what you’d want I’d bet.

Crisscross applesauce, like the blue ninja turtle? But really, when I hear tacticool knife that might get actual use I think of the hidefighter that Steve use to make, maybe still does. I haven't looked for a while. It might be bigger than you want though.

Mick Strider made a great sheath that attached to a 6004 and held his Strider EB-T. That was the coolest rig circa 1998. I tried to google an image unsuccessfully. Any other old guys remember that?

    Thats a sexy bitch.

Yeah I'm just fucking around with the idea. In 5 deployments, I never once used a knife for shit other than cutting 550 cord or putting one between the blades of someones window AC unit on the outside of their chu. I doubt Ill start now.

knives are knives. sounds like the bigger question for you will be sheath and attachment method.
cold steel/ crkt are cheap and work.
than theres halfface blades/toor on the other end. little more expensive.
they all stab really well. those are just a few examples that I tend to lean towards. theres so many knife companies. its just a sharp piece of steel. nothing ground breaking (tho I really like a finger hole in the back. seems it would help it not slip out of your hand if you get slippery blood all over it while stabbin stuff or people).
so back to sheath and attachment. I reccomend kydex better chance of not stabbing yourself in the thigh if you hit a doorknob.
and attachment, you can get pretty creative between stuff out there like bladetech tek-lok
    https://blade-tech.com/products/tek...rTnyynVaxjo9khRynbAGt8nhny73Un7YaAjUdEALw_wcB
gives you tons of options on mounting.
I personally have the utiliclip xl for the knife I keep on my side. took a little grinding and modifying to work on the sheath for my hfb crow scout. but works perfect now. not sure utiliclip would work for what youre doing tho.

This might be getting us in the direction.

Good suggestions on knives, had someone suggest an Esee 5, the Becker and the Hide fighter. Those sheaths may be the way to go.

    Throwing knife.

Have you ever got a 360 knife kill from across the map?

You ain’t goin’ fast enough if it’s not in yer teeth. Pretty fitting in our current times, as well.

I can make a sheath that will attach to the Safariland and a knife to whatever color choices you want, just look through the thread as I have sold a ton on here.

For a combat knife, you might consider putting it on your off-hand side. After all, if your primary hand is free to grab a knife, you'd just grab your pistol. But if you're primary hand is holding someone off then a knife accessible with your off-hand would be preferred.

If that's not a concern or not the purpose, then any slim knife w/ a kydex sheath will work (if the holes on the sheath don't line up with the holes on the shroud: drill a new hole). I'm a fan of knives with a thumb or finger hole to prevent your hand from sliding onto the blade. Have a ZU Bladeworx similar to this one that I really like. Light, slim and ultra tacticool. For the beltloop to prevent it from flopping around, something like this could work, though it seem overpriced for a piece of kydex. Best my googlefu could come up with.

Please note the damaged serrated section. Tried to hack through a whitetail pelvis.

The steel is 154cm but identifies as a hard aluminum alloy. It’s not a commie knife, but it’s from the PNW, which is close. This knife also changes your vote from .66 Trump and .34 Biden to 1.00 Biden. It’s perfect for battle because it cuts and it has AIDS.

Nice looking knives Coker, if the German seems interested, triple the price and make up some shit about M390 or something.

Like you, I carried a number of larger knives on deployments over the years but the only one that got used regularly was the small pocket knife I used to open MREs and other small tasks. Ka-Bar was usually the popular choice but I find them a bit large. This is the one I have on my plate carrier and have it tied in next to my rifle mag pouches. I would not want a knife handle sticking up in front of my sidearm but that’s just me. I have the non-serrrated Grozo. You can find them on eBay for around 350 if you are interested.

Here we go. I love custom shit.

I have used a strider carried on my vest for years very happy with it.
