Primers on GB insane !

I see on GB primers are going for $200 plus for 1k

Are people really paying that much for them ?

And how are these guys shipping the hazmat ?

hell I’ll sell 10k small rifle for $150 per 1k if I could find someone local in MN

I guess I’ve been hiding in my reloading room too long
Last weekend at a gun show small pistol primers were selling for 250.00 per 1k

I overpaid locally for 450s @ $80/1k...but being down to my last thousand while looking at 24lb of Varget on the shelf I was just happy to get some.

Be happy you don't need to buy any Varget on GB or other secondary!

I feel bad for the people who feel the need to pay $100+ for primers. Anything on the shelf over $35 and I leave them. I don't need them that bad. I'm also not just starting out and started my election year stock up late last year. Glad I bought powder right before election day though because powder valley doesnt have half the stuff I had wanted anymore. I also am definitely in reloading to save money. I get better accuracy and all the other benefits, but I'm not going to pay $10-$40 for 100 primers to make some ammo. Just not worth it at that point.

Here's some of my *old* stuff. Too bad we can't still buy them at that price :(

You can actually legally ship primers thru UPS is you go thru the 16 hour certification. I spoke with them on Monday. The last webinar in in about 10 days.

Here is a screen shot of the UPS page to register to legally ship primers. It is the 16 hour course with a fee of $575.00 to register. Do not register for the 24 hour course. Primers only require 16 hour certification

The shipping cost for packing materials of hazmat outweighs any profit one will make selling one or two boxes of primers. Not worth it. You can't throw primers into a regular cardboard box and call it a day, unfortunately.

It's mostly a bureaucratic requirement, not packing materials. Lots of us get primers shipped to us legally from Grafs/Powdervalley/Midway/Midsouth etc. The packaging is not more elaborate than how they're shipped from the factories (individual compartments for each primer on the tray, trays in boxes of 10, boxes in little thin plywood crates.) What holds us back is simply the certification from the bureaucrats and the costs of that. What those regular shippers of primers are doing is paying $575 per employee for the hazmat shipping courses like the one linked above and the other requirements from the DOT and then passing those costs onto the buyers by charging a "hazmat fee" that they decide on. They can cover those costs by sharing them among many thousands of customers. If we had to pass the entirety of those costs onto one customer that buys two boxes of primers, it wouldn't be reasonable. As I insinuated earlier, some regulatory oversight (maybe not exactly what we have now) of shipping explosives is probably fair and most of us are not really interested in going into the primer shipping business. If the market was normal, it wouldn't even occur to us.

I'm willing to pay 1k large rifle for $200 shipped. I'm out right now and with boxes of loaded ammo going for $30 locally if you can find them, I can reload for $15 a box. Its $12 a box with regular primer cost. $3 a box more to have ammo, I'll definitely pay it.

IF ChinaJoe actually pulls it off.......these prices will be the good old days.....I have LR,I'd trade for SR/SP even......my best choice in loading life was getting into casting years ago

for the first time in months looking online (other than gunbroker) today i found some primers at lg outdoors, but at some $300+ / 1000. that is just insane, esp given LOADED 9mm ammo was selling for <$200/case earlier this year.

I scored 2k 450s at scheels and a local gun store in the last month. Felt like I won the lottery. Sucks scheels only let me buy 1k. They had atleast 50k on the shelf.

$45/1k wasn’t so bad.

They are still coming through it seems like. Just have to be in the right place, at the right time. I picked a shit year to start reloading. That said I got enough to get me through a season of matches next year.
I feel bad for the guys who want to get into it like I did last year now or in the spring.

10,000 isnt hoarding, its called using your common sense and learning from 4-5 years ago when the same shit happened. I learnt my lesson and over the last 4 years stocked up on F205M, F210M. F215M, and 8lb jugs of powder. That way i am not paying $170-200 per 1k of primers.

I laugh when i see people thinking others are hoarding when we have gone through this pattern over and over again.

If all you do is what you did, all you will get is what you got - or another way of saying - doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is the definition of insanity.

I learnt from the past, now i am prepared. Dont criticize that just because some of you didnt learn from the past or thought it was an "anomoly" - a hint folks, anomalies dont repeat themselves ... this was quite predictable

I started "stocking up" right after the last panic buy.Shoot a little, buy a little. I figured it would come around again. I've got around 5000 handgun rounds loaded in various calibers, around 70K primers and enough handgun and rifle powders to last a long time. And when the prices recede after the current fiasco, I'll probably buy more. It's called planning ahead.
I did the same thing after the .22LR shortage. Every time I went in Walmart, I would hit the sporting goods section and if they had .22LR, I would pick up a couple of bricks. Got around 8K rounds of that.

Know what's sad? A month or two ago I found a place that had lots of magnum LRPs (like 50K of 215M match and 200k of Winchesters). They were asking $54.95/1000 for the Federals and I posted the resource up here. Promptly had a post that that was gouging! I'm pretty clueless but I didn't think that price was horrible. I guess I was right? My LGS owner talked to his Winchester rep and the date given for primers was "Maybe the middle of 2021... Maybe" Should have gotten more than 5000 <sigh>

I’d love to have 10k of ur small rifle. But can’t pay 150 -1000

Stopped by a LGS while traveling, guess I am lucky paid $89 per 1k . this plus my modest stash should keep me going for a bit.

What else I learned about this. The US postal service won't ship explosives or ammunition of any kind period. Not all postal workers even know this. I had one tell me I just needed a hazmat label and that I could "google it" and print one out. Clueless.

If I understand right, FedEx won't ship it either.

UPS is the only carrier that I know will accept ammunition excepted under ORM-D. They should not accept primers from an uncertified shipper, but if they do, it's the shipper that is culpable for violating federal law.

FedEx will ship ammo. They’ll even pick it up off your doorstep if you have an account and schedule the pickup.

I will not pay those high prices. I dont need to reload that bad. I have found powder and primers online at reloadunlimited.com a few times and have been happy with them.

I picked up 2,000 CCI small rifle primers yesterday at a local gun show. The guy wanted $125.00/1,000 (which I was willing to pay.) I offered $100.00 and settled at $120.00 and was happy to pay it. A year ago I would have thought that is was nuts. I guess, "it is what it is!". At this point, I have all my supplies for the next 12 months.....if it does not get any better by then....I will be well and truly screwed!

Sketchy as fuck.

I ponder what is a reasonable price... on primers and other components and seeing as how I am a poor.... I choose not to shoot as much as I would like.

Perhaps I should sell my meager accumulation of chit and take up golf or fishing.

Lots of scams out there and money to be lost.

I think we are going to see $ 50 - $ 75 / K the new norm once supply catches up.

We've proven we will pay much more so I can't see the prices ever go back to sub $30 for us non-commercial users.

don't like gb's prices the answer is easy don't buy from gb I am going to md to get mine and even though It's not all that cheap at 150 per 1k I was able to pick up a couple with no problems . Or another option you could try reloading your used primers while it might sound strange other people are doing it so why could you not . personally I have gotten 6 to shoot leaving a lot to be desired they did work but while I have 35k worth of them and what they need to reload which I hope means I got a lot to practice with to get it right .

Reloading used primers? Come again, now???

Are you a chemist?

Dafuq you talking about? Midway brownells and Natchez do it that way.

I'm talking about the average person. Hazmat certification is extremely cost prohibitive. Paperwork and packing are NOT the same as throwing something into a box and putting a label onto it.

So unless you have thousands of dollars to shell out to ship ONE or TWO boxes of primers, be my guest.🙄🙄

Packing always is on any order I receive

Except packing isn't anything special every time I get orders, labeling is but it's all a excuse to milk more money by shippers.

I just overpaid for 5k primers because the opportunity cost in the future is too much if I can't shoot. Per shot reloading is so much cheaper than factory, if factory ammo can be bought at all, that paying 10 cents extra for a primer per shot is nothing compared to not shooting for an indefinite period.

And all you guys complaining about hazmat certification being a waste, my 5 boxes of primers showed up like this. You must be getting bootleg shipping if yours come in cardboard boxes.
