In need of a new manual.

Hey all. I recently embarked on building a custom rifle in 6.5 creedmoor.

Well, I picked up whatever bullets I could which happened to be sierra 120gn from my LGS. And I have a few lbs of h100v just to get shooting. Anyway, I go to look for some loads and realize that all of my manuals are pre-6.5 Creedmoor manuals.

So, I've been thinking its time to update. Any opinions on manuals? I have a Lyman and a few powder mfgs manuals now. It seems like some of the bullet mfgs. Manuals are nice but only list their own bullets (berger, sierra).

Any input appreciated!

The Hodgdon website is regularly updated and is a good source is using Hodgdon powders.

Prety much any new manual for sale has 6.5cm loads.

You are correct in that they will be centered around thier brand of bullets. I also use hogden"s site a lot.

The hornady book lists a lot of powders for thier bullets, a bit conservative on max loads.

You can be sure one book will never be enough. Lol

I love the hodgdon site but they don't lost 100v for many bullet weights and I know that other manuals do, which is why I thought I would get a manual also.

A new book will be 99% the same information. I started a small binder for 6.5 cm and printed off all the loading pages from different bullets, powders, etc. along with the saami spec and some blank pages for notes.

I like having the books. Hornady vol 11 releases soon. Nosler just released a new one and so did Lyman. I think maybe Sierra did too but I can’t remember.

Just looked at my Hornady book and Lee book.

The hogden site listed 7 different bullets.

Possibly the reason not more is listed is it is the wrong burn rate fot that application?

Yeah its certainly not ideal, but with the current situation its what I could find to get rounds down range.

Varget and 8208 were a couple of my desired powders.

Now cfe223 and h335 is what I have. Lol

People asked where I dug up 335 old school stuff. It goes bang.

Hybrid 100v is what Hornady uses in their 6.5cm American gunner ammo. Its always been very accurate for me.

Try the Hornady app, you pay .99 per caliber free updates, I like it and I don't have any more books full of info I will never use.

Sierra app is good, and should have updates as they are available.

Hornady app, get the whole thing and I believe you will also get a hard copy when they do the next version.

Those apps look like a good way to print one page and put it in a binder.

I made my own word document to keep loads. As I take notes or make changes (in red) it's easy to update the sheet later.

When a load hits chizle in concreat status it gets a protective sleeve on it.

Also a printed page of saami spec for each cal in the binder for reference.

Usually and then blow a primer before max with CFE223 in a .308 and 175gr smk.
Always work up. Admittedly I had pressure signs but not bad, had to know if I could go one more increment, the answer was a "No".

Agreed, this data is a good starting point but for the small number of calibers I load for I find beyond the upper limit on most with no pressure issues at all.

I would guess that most folks find similar. From reading the load data a lot on this forum settle on it feels like this is the case. No doubt there is a liability aspect coming into play here so the upper limit is conservative for these reasons.

Conservitive yes I think they all are.

I also wonder if they use new brass in the tests for consistancy. That would reduce volume as well.
