Where to get ammo now post

Agree, wasn't justifying anything only identifying that it was available. I'm glad I stocked up when I did. Even with prime membership the new cost was $174.79 a brick, I think it was around $90 pre craze.
189.99 a brick... um... hard pass.

For this move they earned an entry on my "Midway list".... Hard pass as well, now and in the future

I guess I can take Target Sports off my list of places to check. Too bad, they were pretty decently priced when they actually had ammo and delivered fast. Sure glad I didn't sign up for the "prime" membership. I just bought a case of SK rifle match from Champions Choice one month ago for $7.65/box. Only a few good guys left. Everyone else joining in the profiteering.

The way I see it, if a few good guys can keep ammo prices at near normal, then why can't others do the same?
I won't be buying any ammo from those who are gouging folks, to me this is the way we send a message.
If they have a harder time selling it, then the whole supply demand thing will level out.
I don't know what some of these places are paying for their ammo to resell, but I'd bet there are some good profit margins...
History is the greatest predictor of the future, and hopefully things will eventually get better.

honestly as someone who very recently got into guns, ive had no choice but to just eat the cost unfortunately and pay 20-30 cpr. my local places dont have ANY 22lr in stock.

Before this mess started, you could get decent bulk 22lr ammo around my area for about 4 cpr.
Also, fwiw I regularly seen 9mm fmj ammo at about 14-17 cpr.
Good match ammo will always be more expensive but nothing like what we are seeing right now.
I have never seen a time so bad for gun owners, at least not since I started shooting like I do now.
I won't say much more about this as the thread isn't intended for this conversation, but I know many on this thread are concerned about gouging...

If it goes subsonic before hitting the target, the bullet will start to lose proper rotation at the sonic wall. That will affect accuracy. So the whole goal is to remain super-sonic at ranges within which you will be shooting.
LOL...that is true of centerfire but absolutely the other way around with rimfire. That is why all high quality rimfire ammo is ALL subsonic.

Some ammo manufacturers seem to have figured this dilemma out, SK Long Range for example, doesn't seem to be adversely affected by the transonic stage of the bullets flight...

I haven’t run it or chrono’d it, but it’s listed at 1099 FPS, which would be considered a subsonic round. I’ll grant that that’s Mach 1 around 44° F (sea level), but not in hotter temps.

You took this out of context. I was responding to someone who was questioning supersonic 22LR. And my response was accurate.

Don't take my word for it. Listen to Eley: https://eley.co.uk/does-velocity-impact-shooting-accuracy/

Edit: in other words, if you're going to purchase supersonic ammo, make sure your round doesn't reach subsonic velocity before the target (where possible).

Better Deals

I spoke with the tomball pawn place and they have xact for 250 a brick. With the other prices I saw ($350!??) and the midas being only $20 less, I bought a bunch from them. Supposed to be here Tuesday.

I did too.

Wish the shipping wasn't over 25% of the price though.
Just gotta spend enough to get the free shipping. Ha. I spent about 15 minutes too long deciding if I wanted to get 10 boxes of mini mags. Minimags sold out quick and I lost free shipping.

I was too late for the mini-mags unfortunately - SV and velocitors were still in stock when I checked 30 min ago.

Agreed but with other places selling the same for 7.99 to 14.99(!) a box plus shipping I’m still pretty happy with $5.70/box to my door.

I saw some ammo was still available and bought it, turned out to be the Standard Velocity, which I guess is the SV? So by accident, I bought the good stuff? I also bought 7 boxes of velocipter because I really like ammo and hate paying for shipping if I can help it. I have had to either drive 4 hours round trip to get ammo to pay as much as 20 cents/round, except for the Lapua I bought at almost 39 cents/round. I don't think my shooting skills are worth that expense.

So you are your own shipper??:D

I figure between gas and dog sitting shipping when I am the shipper is over $100, so it has to be a productive day when I drive to the big city. So spending $100 for ammo with CCI and getting $100 worth of ammo delivered to my house is a nice change.

Yup... Added it to cart, started the check out process, and when I got to the shipping portion I got the message "These items are currently out of stock and cannot be backordered. To proceed, please remove them from your cart." <sigh>

What's the difference between pistol match and regular match?

Pistol has a much slower velocity might not be though out of a rifle length barrel?
Muzzle velocity for SK Pistol ammo is from a 4.7 or 5.9 inch barrel. Out of a rifle it's usually a little faster than SK Standard+ or Rifle Match.

I was trying to figure out the same thing for Lapua Pistol King and the Polar Biathalon, the two ammos I have with a match reputation. I got the same sort of info. The Pistol King is measured in pistol barrels and the other is measured in a 21.7" barrel. It makes it hard to compare, not knowing how fast the pistol round might exit a rifle barrel.

I chrono'ed a bunch of ammo in Feb on a day in was blowing too hard for anything else.

For comparison, 2 different lots of SK LR were 1044, and 1051.
SK Std+ 1029
SK Pistol Match 1024
Center-X, 2 lots 1008, 1018
Lapua Pistol King, 1008

10 shot strings, CZ 457 Varmint, 24.5 barrel
Really cold, single digits. Of course I forgot the biathlon ammo, would have been nice.

Heh. I was just pickin'. I've. been known to drive a bit myself. You aren't eligible for the ironass award ... yet :) My best friend has it right now for flying out of Memphis on Friday night to Las Vegas and driving home a used white F150 by Sunday morning.

Does the temp have an effect on FPS out of the barrel?

Impressive shooting in the single digits. I shot all winter but usually on days where it got into the 20s.

We probably shouldn't get this thread too off track from 'Where to find ammo now'..but...
I have found a rough 1.5% drop between 50ish temps, and single digits (9 - 17fps).

If folks want to talk more about this, I think there was an earlier post, or start one

Let's restrict this to finding ammo
