Again, like 308 Pirate's post, some of this, as a Jew, is hard to hear, but that does not make it untrue. I can't really explain it, as my experience is growing up in a Jewish family that has been involved in Republican politics for generations, and while I am sure I care more about gun rights than my father or grandfather, they were certainly not anti-gun. I can tell you that I have been explaining this to people for years and they don't seem to see it, do understand who their real enemies are. I'm not going to say there is no weird anti-semitic shit on the right, but, at least to me, it is far less worrying. It's generally guys who live in mom's basement, or who have the intellectual bandwidth to wear swastikas out in public. The real threat, at least now, is from the left.
What is really misunderstood by Jews is that there are two democratic, for lack of a better word, countries in the world who have even some strain of nationalism and right wing thought in them. Israel and the US, and they are really the only Jew friendly places in the world. That should be taken as a fucking clue, but it is not. Can't explain why.
I don't agree that 90% of elected Democrats view Jews like the Germans did. It is hard to explain the difference, but to me, at least, the Germans perceived Jews as a primary problem, while the Democrats see jews as the bad guys in a few of many of the social wars they want to fight each day. It's not better, just a different understanding. IOW, I think the Germans went to bed thinking of the Jews, whereas it is not an obsession for Democrats, it is just another group that can be exterminated in the quest for power. Perhaps more like Stalin...
