I recently acquired an 8lb jug of H4350 in a trade. But it’s an odd shape and I’m wondering if it’s old stock. I’m just curious about what it is exactly. It’s more of a bleach bottle shape. It was still sealed in the box, the jug being sealed also. It’s a different color than all of my other H4350. It’s silver/gray like a pencil lead whereas my other H4350 has a slight greenish tint to it.

That is a pretty old jug old powder. I can't say for certain, but I think there was another label in between that one and the one used today.
I have never had greenish powder, so cannot help, but if it doesn't smell the same as what you have, chances are it will not behave the same when fired.

It smells exactly the same, but the 8lb jug is a stronger odor. Maybe because its full?

If no one answers, call Hodgdon in the morning, give them the code in your pic, they can tell you when it was made and answer any questions on whether it should be used in the condition you describe.
I've already emailed them but not expecting a reply for a few days I figured I'd ask the collective Hide brain. Thanks!

Is absolutely an older style logo on the 8#. Perhaps contact Hodgdon with the lot number, there have been many versions (and manufacturers of it for Hodgdon) of it over the years, allegedly the Australian version didn't come about until the 80's

    ETA:
Their first "Extreme" series powder was Varget in 1996. FWIW cans from that time did have that logo but used the thinner font for Hodgdon as on your new can. It however didn't say "Extreme" on the early cans, just the ads and marketing material.
I do not recall when H4350 joined that series and if it truly was a reformulation or just a new marketing point for an existing characteristic of that Australian powder.

So I talked with Hodgdon. They said it was from the early 90's, and by my description of the powder they think it's good to go. They also told me that while not marked "Extreme", it also has the insensitivity to temp as newer H4350. Apparently it just wasn't marketed that way back then. We'll see. I'll have to load up a few of the older and newer and try it out.

I have two 1# jars of H-4350 from the early- mid 1990's marketed after the old WWII stocks of 4831 were depleted. One jar is marked "Made in Scotland" and the other is marked "Made in Australia". Both of these powders are long stick and dark gray. Not like the current greenish tinted, short grained ADI powders.

The was a transition in the 1990's to a new supply of H-4831.

Take a look on the jug to see if there is a manufacturer source note.

My two jars have a red label and are likely a couple years older than your jug.

Yes, it looks like your jug was the next transition after my bottles to a shorter grained stick, but still a dark gray color. It should shoot just fine. I still have a 1 # paper can of the old WWII H-4831 that shoots real well with low E/S - S-D's.
