Yes. The barrel is not exactly to spec as the M40. The M700SS w/ the R5 24" bull barrel is almost the same action and the same barrel as the the 40 specs. The stock is better on the M40 and the trigger is not the crap XMP on the M40 either. But pickup a M700SS R5 milspec, but a nice trigger...
Assuming there is higher pressure in that particular .308...that's possible but unlikely. You would usually see that type of problem in older rifles designed for 7.62 x 51. However, the neck placement and angle are slightly different between the 2, so if your tolerence is very tight on a gun...
FGMM 7.62 NATO does use a different case than FGMM .308. The primers are staked in the NATO rounds, not so in the .308 to my knowledge. The brass is dull in the NATO FGMM. It's polished in the .308. Federal claims on their website that the 2 rounds are loaded to create the same pressure...
Re: 7.62 nato vs 308 win I have really hit the books on this very subject. I am still unclear as to all of the specifics, but I feel confident in my knowledge of a few points. I really got curious when I bought two offerings from Federal. Both were Federal Gold Medal Match (FGMM). Both...
Re: FGMM .308 vs FGMM 7.62x51 Well all of this leads me to the following question: Why does federal make FGMM in both calibers if they perform the same? Is it just to appeal to H & K gas gun users?
Re: FGMM .308 vs FGMM 7.62x51 I think that the diagram that "The Great .308 post is very helpful". However, I think that it might not reflect the difference in FGMM .308 vs. FGMM 7.62. I think that the digram is comparing commercial .308 (i.e. FGMM .308) vs. milspec NATO rounds. I am still...
Re: FGMM .308 vs FGMM 7.62x51 So the consensus is that 7.62 x 51 FGMM is fine to shoot in a Rem. 700 .308. I have heard repeatedly that it is fine to shoot NATO rounds through a Rem 700 .308. But the above diagram seems to contradict that. It would seem that the cartridge in a NATO round...
