Good grief this is starting to get old. $77 for 500pcs of brass from our favorite online seller and ALOT of it appears to be MG fired. Oh well... I tumble (again, I don't trust what they did at the store) I decap I lube with one-shot ... stuck in my Lee die (glad I didn't do this with...
Didn't Gibbs come up with a more correct sight base than the current Redfield? The problem with the current Redfield is that they are made WRONG for the 1903A3/A4. I would need to cut and weld two CURRENT bases to make one that sits correctly. More work than what I care to do right now.
One family member has a 1885 high wall (Italian) and I have a Win-Jap 1886. Both are 45-90. With the right load, his 1885 will ring the gong at 600yds using his Leatherwood scope. Mine does just fine out to 200yds with iron ladder sights. (When Smith still made them)
Bingo!!! For any distance out beyond 600yds and that heavy of a bullet, you are likely to need a longer barrel. I found this out as well a few years back. With a 77gr SMK or Nosler and a 24" 1:10 they will stabilize but I need a 1:8 for my 18". But, report back with how it goes. Just because...
For the money, White Oak is the best out there for the price. Did an upper build for a friend with one of them and his SPR MOD-1 is near perfect. Raineer have proven performance as well. I went a bit cheaper and installed a DPMS SASS 18" on my MOD-0 and its fluted under the handguard, so its...
Millett = lens mold. As was stated, wait a year or so and watch your "coated" lens become more like a toilet seat. Their customer service is decent but not consistent.
Total agreement. 10x is about perfect.though don't overlook a good 12x if it has good glass. I find that having a solid low magnification is equally important for closer shots. The nikon recomendation is also a solid choice.
BB- I am not that concerned about saving the primers at this point... Good LC brass is what I am interested in. I was thinking of loading some blanks with Reddot and some grits to fire form the cases then run them through the complete case prep cycle. I ordered 3 bags of the stuff and the...
Looking at picking up some more brass and this came across my radar. https://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/product/productId/26972 Thoughts? Sure its using mil spec primers, but, can't be that far off for what I need. (1MOA or less) I might try sorting brass on weight to see if matters.
Major Mega Ditto's V-max are great for accuracy in both my bolt guns and my ARs. VARGET and TAC and 748... I do not crimp the rounds, just let neck tension from WCC brass do their job.
I've had really good luck with just about every 168gr bullet at that distance. Speer, Hornady, Sierra, Nossler...etc. all perform very well and under 1MOA if I do my job and the rest of the loading operations are followed. I will say, I've not had much luck with 150gr SP/flat base bullets out...
Yeah, that is one of the drawbacks to the Leupold, unless I can track down an M40 edition VX-II. I already have one of the newer 3x9x40 Redfield Revolution scopes on my other 700, excellent glass. Absolutely ZERO complaints. But, I just can't fathom getting $600 into a marginal set of 50yr old...
Roommate in college had a 6.5c and it was not at all a wall hanger. Took a pair of spiked bucks 2 years in a row. (not that that makes him Lee Harvey Oswald) His were old school "Western" boxes and were JSP. As far as reloading, there were .268" JSP 125gr pills available from either...
All, I am trying to decide on the optics for my M40 clone. Its not going to be 100% exact reproduction since I am not starting with a vintage 6-digit Rem 700. I have the Silverhill stock and 16601-3 buttplate all setup. (LOTS of work getting that fitted) But now I am debating how to...
