Ranges leading up to deer season....
Tough time of the year for hunters and shooters who do truly, do it properly. Watched a guy last year shooting his deer rifle over a car, jack stand. Chewed up the forend on the steel , didn't seem to care. Or the guy shooting a .300 Rem Ultra Mag off a lead sled, and STILL flinching...- FN in MT

Hunting & Fishing New hunting rifle project for my sons
Many years back I had a little SAKO sporter, on the short Vixen action in .25-.222 Rem mag. IIRC it was at that times possibly called a .25 Copperhead? It came with a set of custom dies, and load data. Forget the data but it was a great killer on deer/antelope with 87 gr standard Hornady slugs...- FN in MT

Congrats on a nice bull. In my opinion...ANY elk, taken fair chase is a trophy. They can be really tough at times. Ammo Can projects?
Built a pair of motorcycle panniers/cases for a guys BMW R100 about 20 years back. Used a pair of 20mm cans, made brackets out of square tubing, welded to the cans. Then a frame to attach the cans to the bike. Only issue...HEAVY and a PITA to get into the cans when you wanted too. And they...- FN in MT

IIRC that picture was taken out by Troy. No idea on weight. Few years back my neighbors son in Law killed a bear with a .40 S&W and 180 gr HP/FMJ mix. Two rds to the skull killed it. To the OP...FWIW....I have a 4 1/4" Ed Brown Commander sized 1911 in .45 acp. Been carrying it at 4:00 or so, in a Milt Sparks summer Special or their VM-II rig. I carry a spare mag off to 8:00 or so. I've got several SIG's and a few HK's but prefer the EB as it's very accurate, great...- FN in MT
