Back when I put together an agency ammunition/personally-owned weapons policy recommendations I simply asked every major agency for their policy or practices. I got a lot of good responses--hopefully a phone call to the training unit at the agency will get what you need. You might have good...
One more point of information. Gary Roberts has reported that repeated chambering of Hornady TAP in an AR can desensitize/otherwise prevent primer ignition. This was observed when a certain LE agency team experienced a click instead of a bang during an entry. They tested the rest of...
My 1/7 ARs have shot AE223 55 .33" at 100, 5 shots from the bench. Same ammo shoots 3" at 200 with minimal wind. Switching to 62-69 @ 200 tightens it back up again. Opening up at 200 is pretty consistent with all 55 I've shot through those two 14.5". LaRues at 200 + 20mph wind under time...
What 55gr ammo were you shooting? As another poster touched on--which buffer are you using? The 6-8' ejection--did your ammo simply rest in a pile on the ground that far away, or was it sailing 6'-8' of air before hitting a wall or? Muzzle brakes are fine for competitors who shoot a...
I did patrol work, ALERRT class and other FoF classes. Gloves, cold weather affect trigger feel/pressure. The SD3G doesn't have much room for error. I would not use my SD3G in that role.
I stated my usage to be clear about my opinion. I shoot Glocks and Geissele, not 1911s and fitted/adj AR triggers. YMMV, keep the "bull" to yourself. FWIW, I e-mailed Giessele Re: trigger spring replacement intervals. They advise the hammer spring be replaced every 10k for the SD series. A...
I have used the VCAS and VTAC slings for several years. I prefer the VCAS for lack of free tails and adjustment range decent for a carbine + chest rig. The VTAC is much better suited to longer adjustment needs. Are you aware of Frank Proctor's sling? It looks very well suited for you uses...
I'm game for trying new stuff. I bought the Diamondhead a few years ago. More recently the Troy DOA and CSAT CQ rear made by XS. Even have a Dueck setup on my 1-6.5 optic'd carbine. I find the Diamond works better than the DOA for me. I prefer the Diamond over regular aperture. The...
I do not use race guns or competition guns in 3gun. I run serious use carbines only, tac optics or limited class. I've run the SD3G and SD-C for about 3yrs now. The local 3G matches ALWAYS include a 400-500yd target array. Almost always involves prone/magazine point of contact (bipods and...
FBI, NTOA, Box o' Truth, etc. all find there's not much difference in 5.56 and typical handguns inside an American sheetrock'd home. Some 55gr actually penetrates *less*, but why would you choose a high frag projectile when penetration is the key? Better to secure the house better... and...
Talk about crap that gets spewed on the net. You're making a lot of generalizations and assumptions. Where do you get your info on 3-gun? 3 Gun Nation? It doesn't sound first hand. 3 gun is what you MAKE of it. 3-gunners use irons. Or irons/scope. Or Irons/scope/red dot/magnifier...
