I researched the show and it stated that the rifle was a 44-40

Saw this show when I was younger and it is now on the MeTV channel. During the opening of the show the Rifleman walks down a street firing his rifle' now this was a 44-40 and I counted 13 shots before he reloads. Is that possible or Hollywood?
