    Best all round .308 barrel length?

    1-12" is plenty to stabilize Sierra 175's in the .308. If you're having accuracy issues, it's something other than the twist itself.

    The only thing I've noticed is that it does tend to string vertically, and I'm pretty sure it's due to stock/barrel contact depending on how much forward pressure I put on it as it rests in the front bag. The stock is pretty floppy.

    Cutting Down A Barrel: The unknown ins and outs of those who've been there and done that.

    I love a shawty with an 18-20" barrel. Think about the following things before you chop your salvage that far: 1. balance. cutting the barrel to 18" especially might make it very muzzle light. also, are you sure it's 24" from the factory? I haven't owned a savage bolt gun in a standard...

    I completely agree with the folks who are saying don't go heavier than varmint/sendero, unless you're getting it for a very specialized application.
