The only thing I've noticed is that it does tend to string vertically, and I'm pretty sure it's due to stock/barrel contact depending on how much forward pressure I put on it as it rests in the front bag. The stock is pretty floppy.
The stock is extra-cheapo, and I think putting money into one of these would just be polishing a turd. What they do well is (1) have good barrels that shoot well, (2) have surprisingly good el-cheapo bedding, (3) feed surprisingly well from the laughable plasticka magazine, and (3) have decent...
I love a shawty with an 18-20" barrel. Think about the following things before you chop your salvage that far: 1. balance. cutting the barrel to 18" especially might make it very muzzle light. also, are you sure it's 24" from the factory? I haven't owned a savage bolt gun in a standard...
This is kinda hidden in this thread, but I'm gonna second the motion. A SS 6x or 10x fixed makes an excellent rimfire scope. the clicks are repeatable and they have a ton of elevation adjustment range, if you're wanting to stretch the .22's legs a little ...
hell, I'm a grown ass man and I still prefer an 18-20" barrel for hunting. My vote is for .260, and I wouldn't be afraid to go even "smaller" ... I'm a .308 lover too, such an easy cartridge to reload and get accuracy out of. But it's got more recoil than necessary for the performance you get.
it will shoot the hornady 75 bthp, which is pretty decent. I've got the hawg hunter .223, and a .308 precision carbine. the PC is better, I'm just not sure if it's $300-400 better. the .223 has enough magazine latitude to set your OAL at 2.4"ish with the 75 g bthp and be right at the lands...
have I commented on this thread yet? both of my 455's (two of 'em) shoot CCI SV's like shit, as in 2" groups at 50 yds. switch to Wolf MT and they become bugholers, capable of .5" and smaller groups at 50 yds.
