    Gunsmithing Indicating a fluted barrel

I would like some opinions on indicating fluted barrels. Do you feel you need a rib TDC or is it ok to have a groove TDC. I have been told a rib TDC adds stiffness. Or does anyone not indicate. I would like soom thoughts on this.

Re: Best barrel for Kidd Supergrade Thanks for all the info. I have 25 years experience chambering centerfire rifle barrels. I have not had much experience with rimfires. I want to do more of it. Just not sure which barrel would be best to use. Tim North has some 22 rf blanks in stock so I...

    Best barrel for Kidd Supergrade

Re: Best barrel for Kidd Supergrade I am buying a Kidd supergrade receiver. I am going to do my own threading and stock work. Kidd does not sell barrel blanks. I am asking which barrel to use for the utmost accuracy. And which reamer design.

    Best barrel for Kidd Supergrade

I have a Kidd Supergrade action on order. This the one for threaded barrels and has a rear tang. I am going to put it in a bench rest stock. Which barrel would be best? Would a Broughton or Benchmark be over kill? Also which reamer would be best?

Gunsmithing Advice on 300 Weatherby Throat

Anyone have advice on a good all round throat for a 300 weatherby? PT&G has reamer with a .248 and a .188. Dave feels that a .188 is to short for factory. I think the .248 is too long for all but the heavest bullets. I would like something that would work well for handloads and factory. Any...

Gunsmithing Question on Sako Extractor Size

I am doing a bolt face conversion on a Remington 700. I am going to a .308 bolt face. Which size extractor works best? I see Tubbs has 5 sizes. Gre-Tan has only 2. What about the bolt nose. Gre-Tan cuts his to .136. I have heard of guys going to .125. Thanks, Keith

Gunsmithing Advice on Remington Bolt Raceway Reamer

Re: Advice on Remington Bolt Raceway Reamer Thanks, William for the info. Dave will build any Dia. at no extra charge. What do you think about having one built .706 or .707? Would this clean up a little better? Dave will also build bolts to fix this size at no extra charge.

Gunsmithing Advice on Remington Bolt Raceway Reamer

I am about to order a Bolt Raceway Reamer from PT&G. Will a .705 clean most Remington 700s? I do not have many 700s in my shop to check at this time. I seem to remember some having a .706 front ring. Should I have the reamer built in a .707 Dia.? Thanks, Keith

    Gunsmithing M16 Extractor Question

what is the correct depth to mill a 700 bolt for M16 style extractor on a 308 bolt face? It seems to me if you are not carefull you could mill into the firing pin hole. The instructions that Badger Ord. sent are for a 338 Lapua. A 308 needs to be deeper. Thanks for the help.
