Charisma Owen killing it at Camp Perry in Service Rifle Comp.

@Frank Green Thanks for being a supporter. High power/across the course matches don't get the big prize tables and fanfare that PRS stuff does these days, so any help we can get from the industry is much appreciated.

    Bighorn Origin Build Thread

It's an Eliseo RTS chassis for any SA Remington 700 or clone. I'd say 50% of all the prone rifles you see on the line at high power matches now are in one of Gary's setups. Mine is setup for AICS magazines, but most are set up for single shot actions. Gary Eliseo is the real deal. He is as...

Advanced Marksmanship Tale of Two Shooters

There's a saying among service rifle shooters/NRA highpower competitors that "a good hold is worth a minute of wind." Basically saying that being able to hold your crosshairs or front post in the center of the x-ring buys you an MOA of forgiveness on a botched wind call vs. breaking a shot at...

    Bighorn Origin Build Thread

My palma rifle I built last winter. Origin SA, 31" Bartlein heavy palma 1:7 in .223, .110 freebore for 80's, 88's, and 90's, Eliseo RTS stock. I built this thinking I'd make a across the course/prone rifle combo, but I've never used it as anything but a single shot thus far. It usually wears...

How much do dies really matter in accuracy?

Sirhr, When I was exclusively loading for service rifle across the course matches, I actually bought a 2nd set of Lee "RGB" does just to have a 2nd seater. They have a thimble like the micrometer, but aren't marked. All my ammo was either mag length 69 SMK's or long-loaded 80 SMK's that had to...

How much do dies really matter in accuracy?

I have no doubt the Redding/Forster/LE Wilson's/Triebel, etc are great dies, and I would never fault anyone for buying high quality stuff. That being said, I went distinguished, won 3 state championships (across the course, midrange prone, and long range prone) and shot lots of high master...

    Do you shoot your .223?

23.8 of N135 behind a Berger 90 or Hornady 80 or 88 eld all end up super accurate in my .223 Palma rifle. Usually single digit SD's at 1000 yards. 31" 1:7 twist Bartlein, Origin action, CG Xtreme trigger, Eliseo chassis, Eric Hollis match rifle sling. This was my clean string at 600 a...

Barrel twist for 223AI shooting 80s or 90s

I shoot 88 ELD's and Berger 90's from my 1:7 Bartlein to 1000 all the time without issue. 6.5 might work fine, but it's not necessary.

    Bartlein Barrels Update

Keep up the good work Frank and Brady! Keep the quality, increase production when and where you can, and you'll be just fine. Id rather see long lead times andhigh quality vs. short lead times and junk going out the door or going bankrupt in 4 years because you overborrowed to ramp up...

Can you use a AR-15 for long distance shooting Comp?

Shot this 145-9X at 900 yards in October in a Palma match. 9 of the 15 shots inside the 1 moa x-ring. It was mid/low 50's at the time. 20" service rifle, shot from a sling. White Oak button barrel, 24.2 Varget, 80 eld jumping 0.010". The 80 eld is just right for a .223 until you get into...

    RPR barrel

No worries. I got mine for the ability to mag-feed 80's and 90's for high power matches. I'm guessing a lot of people assume it uses AR mags, and potentially shy away from it for that reason. I believe its actually built on the same receiver as the short action calibers (.308, 6.5, and 6...

    RPR barrel

The .223 RPR does not use AR mags. The mags it comes with are not p-mags...the oal capacity is more like 2.550" vs. 2.260" of a normal AR mag.

    RPR 556 Alternative?

No complaints other than the primer cratering issue, and high dollar magazines. I ended up buying 4 plus a single feed sled for it for use in matches.

    RPR 556 Alternative?

Yes sir. Not sure how many rounds it had on it, but not many.

    RPR 556 Alternative?

I picked one up used for $775 last year as a high power/ across the course match rifle. The only modification I made to it was a White Oak match rifle handguard that accepts a handstop for shooting from the sling. It's a hammer with 69 and 80 SMK's, although I do get primer cratering like...
