1st round of large frame questions

No. I was referring to the barrel nut they use that has a larger bearing surface and that doesn't need to be timed with the gas tube.

1st round of large frame questions

    1. What barrel length is common for 308? I have seen a few 18", a 16" here and there, mostly 20", and a random 22". Just curious because for some reason I have it in my head 22" is optimal. 2. Is there a forend that has a similar mounting as the Geissele stuff? I have them on my small...

Action screw torque on bedded action

I did a hillbilly bed job on my Savage with JB Weld. I wasn't particularly impressed with it not bedded and figured I had nothing to lose. I removed a bit of the material around the receiver on the Boyd's pro varmint (actually it's the tacticool when I got it). I started by setting steel...

    Have you bedded your 22?

Thanks to everyone who has chimed in. The rifle started out life in a more off-hand style stock, The Mako if you are wondering. It is a pre-e receiver. I got some very good results with that stock but it was uncomfortable for the game I was playing with it which was primarily off a bench. I...

    Have you bedded your 22?

I've been tinkering with my 22. Wellllll..... that's an understatement. More like tearing it completely apart and doing as much as I can to increase accuracy. Started with a Savage MKII heavy barrel. Boyd's pro varminter stock. Upgraded to thicker mag plate. Pillars added. Skim bedded the...

    firearm storage question

Binder, kid stuff takes up a lot of space.....or so I am told :). We are a modest family. The house is really not all that large. We need all the space we can for Jr. Also, I don't want him growing up with a "no touch" box in his room. He and any further children will be encouraged to learn...

    firearm storage question

Mechanic, I have a plan for that. Obviously I will not disclose that to the internet.

    firearm storage question

If I had the option I would put the safe in the house. I guess we have too much stuff. I don't have another option. I am paranoid about my stuff. Right now I generally field strip everything at least once every two months to check and give them a wipe down. Don't have too many so this is...

    firearm storage question

Up until now, I have stored my ammo and firearms in a spare bedroom. My wife is pregnant with our first. That room is going to become his room. I have a Cabela's signature 35 on order. Unfortunaly, it is going into an unheated garage. I plan on using a electronic dehumidifing rod. Will...

Are all .277 projectiles created equal

I have a .270 win (please no comments. I know there are better rounds but it is what I have.) And I have been looking at different manufacturers' sites. Some .277s are listed as a .270 and some are 6.8. Will they only stabilize it that barrel because of the twist? Thanks in advance.

    What do you consider accurate?

Re: What do you consider accurate? To rephrase the original question, are most military and law enforcement LR rifles just under 1 MOA or is this not a valid representation of what is expected? I seem to recall a TRG 42 test in G&A a year or so go where the shooter made ridiculous group like...

    What do you consider accurate?

Re: What do you consider accurate? I may have just answered my own question. The first thread I read after posting stated the .338 doesn't stabilize until 200-300 yrds. Still are my expectations high?
