I got a question for you fellas if you are still watching this thread after a year and a half. I'm a novice compared to you all but built an AR-10 last winter and another AR-15 this winter. So, now I'd like to build another AR-15 with more emphasis on longer range accuracy than this year's...

btw... still think I'll shoot this existing barrel to record group sizes before pulling it to shim and bed. Will be interesting to see if it makes a difference or not.

Resurrection Alert! Just fit a barrel on an AERO Enhanced in .308. At the last minute I decided against the loctite because I decided instead to order a Bat extension and replace the one on the barrel after I shoot it. I thought that way I could test for groups, then order a custom fit...

I'm waiting on some 220 grit lapping compound before I continue (G&G sent 120 grit with their tool and it felt like gravel from my drive) but the more I look at the M5E1 the more problematic it seems. The way I see it there is a big difference in how you'd want to handle the M5 and M5E1...

They sell them separately. The M5E1 one was $37.50 and delivery was very fast.

Doing my first one so including tools way more expensive. But the objective is to learn as well as have an accurate rifle with several upgrades beyond a stock unit. Now - I have been impressed with what you could buy off the shelf but had I gone that route I'd be just as ignorant as I was...

I bought just the M5E1 tool for $37.50 from G&G. It arrived quick! And this is my first build (still waiting on a Criterion barrel to arrive) so very interested in this topic. There are a lot of threads that simply ask if the AERO M5E1 receivers need lapping, in other words, is AERO...

Thanks for the link. I watched and undoubtedly will watch again. The barrel nut on the M51E is a little different but I imagine I should be able to find more concerning the lapping there. I did get a G&G lapping tool expressly for the M51E.

To digress from the topic a moment... thanks for the Criterion tip. Got one. Should be in the mail today. Last of the deliveries so I'll be glued to YouTube after arrival, this being my first. Where to start? Trigger, LPK or barrel installation, or does it matter?

Hope so... that's what I bought. Then started waffling on the 20". Still looking for a Rifle length gas option even if I go 18". Those seem a little harder to find than mid-length unless I chose the heavier profile.
