At least 2 federal judges have admitted to making bad rulings by using AI

We had a couple of lawyers in New Zealand using AI to prepare submissions for court. AI invented case law and quoted precidents or decisions that didn't exist. The lawyers used the AI generated material without checking and came seriously unstuck when the opposition lawyers did check the quoted...

Your "Inventory..." How did it get that way?

I was always nice to the grumpy old retired ex police dog handler who still worked as a civilian at the police station I worked at. He used to run a small police museum at another police station before it was turned into office spaces and all the museum guns went into storage for about 15...

I think we should bring back public hanging

One of the several reasons that Singapore got rid of public hanging was that some of the New Zealand soldiers based in Singapore (NZ had an infantry battalion and support units based there) would treat it as a day out, get drunk and cause disorder.

    New wood for the L1A1

The triangular coachwood fore ends always looked the nicest. They weren't as durable as the later laminated oval shaped ones or the black plastic ones, but certainly looked good. In the late 1980's there were some SLRs (Self Loading Rifle, as the L1A1 was known in the military. ) in the camp...

The "I was there" thread. A discussion about concerts you've attended.

My first was probably Motorhead at Mainstreet, a smallish venue in Auckland's Queen Street about 1984. They were originally going to play a bigger venue further from the central city but it was moved. Suited me perfectly as I could walk to the harbour ferry and ten minutes walk to the venue...

Is the .17HMR really much better than .22LR for varmints?

Not quite. But the railway crossing in the centre left was used in the opening scene of 2005 movie The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. It's a nice little spot about 40km north of Auckland. I have access to 1800 acres. I need to get up there more often than I do.

Is the .17HMR really much better than .22LR for varmints?

I love mine. Marlin 917 with a Leupold 4.5-14 scope and a Gunworks suppressor made for 17 HMR. If I'm closer to houses, stock or horses, I'll use a suppressed .22 to be extra quiet.

    Show yer Peacemakers, folks!

Ruger Single Six .22LR. Made in 1972 so no transfer bar. Four clicks as you pull the hammer back. My pair of Ruger Vaquero .357 Mags. I picked the first one up at an Antique Arms Association gun show in Auckland and the second at the same show the next year. They were from a deceased estate...

    Television And Movie Guns

I owned this rifle when the movie was made. Well the barreled action at least. It was a Rem 700 VS in .308 mounted in a AI stock with a new square shaped shroud to make it look more like an AI. I swapped the rifle for a McMillan A3 stock. Another of my rifles, my TBA M40A1 is in the movie...
