What's the twist rate of the barrel? Also, I know you mentioned it was the first shot, but were you shooting Berry's before this round? I ask these questions because, Berry's has a max twist rate rating of 1:7 and a velocity below X. These rounds will start coming apart with a faster twist...
I can confirm. I used both for F-Class and PRS when I shot 80s and 90s. I got a bunch for a steal when my local range changed management and decided to no longer sell components. If I remember right they were selling the VV powders as low as $5/pound by the end. I bought 30-40 pounds of it...
I would expect some sort of "qualification" with every rifle, optic, caliber combination you intend to shoot 600/1000 given the old requirement to do so when they changed layouts years ago. I haven't been since they shut PRS and F-class down, so my knowledge may be dated.
I did this testing when I shot F-Class. After far too much time and effort I came to the conclusion that I can't shoot the difference caused by any volume variation at 600 yards. Try it yourself and see. Pick X number of cases with the smallest case volume, then X with the highest case...
I first tried 95g SMKs in my F-Class 1:7 Shilen throated for 90g SMKs. Worked pretty good. Groups averaged under .5". typically .3". Velocity was pretty low as I worked up slowly. After a while I made a dedicated Bart PRS barrel. 28" 1:6.5 throated a mile long to accommodate the 95s. If I...
I was going to ask this myself. I have a Rattler (1:5) and never had any issues until I used Berry's (plated). I didn't realize until after buying them that they have a disclaimer of not using them in anything faster than 1:7. Worked ok-ish without the can in place, but that defeats the...
