Employees suck !

I've had 2 different apprentices during this turnaround at the plant...

One is a 22 year old kid, full blood (or damn near) Cherokee.

The other is a 42 year old former boilermaker... So he has a couple decades in building trades.

Guess which one is the better apprentice?

Mike

What is your trade? My concern regarding the boilermaker he might have thought he wanted to be your journeyman.

That tendency would tend to be strongest in those coming from Union shops so it might not be fair to tar your guy with it.

Been a renter and a owner, never a landlord

IMO the average landlord deserves the average tenet

Electrician.

And the 22 year old kid is the better apprentice by light years. He's just starting out so there's a lot he doesn't know. But he's smart as a whip and quick to pick up on what I'm teaching. It's almost scary how intuitively he picks stuff up.

The other guy is a really nice guy but dumb as a stump and slower than molasses in January. And there is no intuition. It seems the harder he tries the more wrong he gets it... Which makes me so much friendlier. Poor guy.

Mike

I was a Cop for 40 years. 98% of the people I worked with were professional, competent people. We work long hours for short money. We have to deal with people at their worst moments in their lives if they are the victim and the most evil people our society produces. Unlike your job some 200+ of us don't go home after shift. They give up their lives for YOU so that you can go about your business. You don't have to sleep with one eye open to protect your life and property. People like you don't like Cops either, because you had to meet one after you broke the law, heard only one side of a story or wanted to be one but couldn't. Go ahead and don't like Cops all you need to, but try to imagine what our society would be like if there weren't any. As a PMC I've worked contracts in places without the rule of law or anybody to in force them. Believe me you don't want that for yourself or your family.

My job is on the top 5 of the most dangerous, we don’t have pensions, qualified immunity, lifestyle clothing brands, and no one “thanks us for our service” and pay almost 6 figures for our own training

How do you stack up?

I actually enjoy training younger people with little to know experience if they will listen and want to work. The ones that want to learn soak up the knowledge like a sponge.

The older guys usually know it all and when they ask a question, they will either argue or decide they didn't like that response. Then they go ask 3 other people to figure out if they can find an easier way because they think it's going to be too much work. I usually have it done by time they get back and it's done correctly.

Not this guy... He's just dumb. He is a case of "bless his heart" if there ever was one. He just aggravates me and I don't have much patience with him... Which I think rattles him and makes it worse. He's an ox when it comes to pulling wire though.

His heart is in the right place... But it takes a bit more than that.

The police don't protect people from criminals. The police keep the criminals safe from the people.
BULLSHIT. Ignorant A Holes like you haven't got a clue. As much as we don't like it they have the same rights as you do. They are shit bags and belong in a cage, but we don't get to make those decisions and neither do you. If you break the law the same goes for you. Idiots like you think people need to be punished on the spot for what they do. Where does that stop J walking, someone cut you off in traffic? And what job would that be? Does your job make you roll the dice every time you get out of the car? The money you earn as a Cop will not make you rich. If you make these six figures your talking about it because you work 80 hours a week, weekends, holidays. You miss birthdays, graduations, kids first steps. That's because we spend 20 plus years earning that pension you think is so grand. Believe me if you last 20 years you earn every penny of it. Lavish wardrobe? I don't know what police department your looking at. The police departments issue uniforms and equipment these days. When I first started I had to pay out of pocket for everything. If you lasted for two years you got your money back to use for what ever you needed to replace. I spent 22 years in the Marine Corps both active and reserves and 40 years in law enforcement both full and part time including 12 years on the LAPD. I lived long enough to retire form both. As for my pensions go I earned every penny of them. How about you work a full year in that black & white mobile office. If you make it then we'll drink on your luck and you can tell me all about it.
I'd your job is so dangerous and the pay sucks, no pension or benefits then why are you stupid enough to keep a job like that?

Uh, dude my comment was a sarcastic snark at @TurboTrout I never said anything about anything in your long winded response.

Roll the dice when you get out of your car? Bro, your job NEVER even makes the list of most dangerous

And for the super low entry requirements compared to the pay and benefits, plus you don’t need to invest any meaningful amount of your own money in your education, except a few polyester shirts they made you buy one day… it’s like winning the mental midget lotto 😂

LOL! you cops bitching about the job being dangerous. YOU chose the job.
However, I do understand your frustration given the inherent lack of mental capacity and qualifications to do anything that will benefit our society.

Easy there Max.

If you have been a LEO that long then you have seen the change in LEO's behavior. Personally I believe good cops are a thin blue line and when they do their jobs well it provides a general peace of mind for those that cant protect themselves and helps a civilized society run smoothly.

And I know a bunch of those folks. I was going through town the other day when one of the PD pulled over to talk to a local that leans pretty far over on the 5150 scale. No drugs. No alcohol. No bad behavior. She just has good conversations with people we cant see and sometimes thinks there are crosswalks she can use when they arent there. He treated her with respect. Got her out of the road, picked up her belongings she had dropped on the sidewalk, bundled them up for her and walked her to the local mission. I see that sort of thing frequently.

However, what I am seeing and experiencing more frequently isnt the things like the above. Recently I had another unnecessary interaction with a LEO. I haven't finished all the surgeries after being hit head on by a drunk driver so when I walk I stop every block or so to rest my hip. I was headed towards the capital in Sacramento, on an open, paved sidewalk, when I paused near a parking meter to rest Coming up from behind me some jerk of a Sac City Sarge asks what I am doing. Before I can even reply he demands "LET ME SEE YOUR ID". So you know how it goes from there. I am about to ask him why and he steps up way to close and says "I AM NOT GOING TO ASK YOU AGAIN. LET ME SEE YOUR ID". Of course he cant stop there. Then he tells me to back up due to "officer safety concerns". If I try to do exactly what he says I am going to fall over. My current hip just doesnt work that way. Now I have to try to appease the person that is effectively acting like a Nazi brown shirt who is asking for my papers for no reason. He had no legal rational nor probable cause to approach me other than to run me for warrants and he was not in the least concerned about violating my constitutional rights. The very ones he swore to uphold.

If you dont think the last part ever happens then you are just way to biased. If you agree that cops like the Sac City Sargeant are out there, how many times have you stepped up to stop that bad behavior?

This is not an all or nothing conversation for most of us. Yes there are shit stirrers here but dont try to tell us that all LEO's are good. 90% of people like good LEO's and recognize their value. And we also see an increasing number of LOE's that just treat the average citizen with disregard.

My 2 cents......

My wife's cousin joined Sac Metro, three years later he was done. He said it was the shift work, but he always chose the worst assignments (gang unit) I think the culture got to him. He asked me early on why I didn't look into law enforcement when I left active duty, I told in this state and this political climate?

You’re newer to the Hide. You’ll learn to read the anti-LE and sometimes anti-military sentiments and be amused. Everyone is a bad ass on the internet.

The only people I see trying to pretend they are a badass are the pampered police and mil who like to play up the danger despite not even making it on the dangerous gigs lists

Folks who are actually working on that list just kinda chuckle and move on, they also done scream from the rooftops on how their life is a “roll of the dice” or some other drama queen BS

Sac is about the same sort of wasteland that the Bay Area is. Its probably tough enough dealing with the druggies/homeless/gangs but the guilt laden, rich, defund all cop liberals are the worst. Not sure how a good LEO navigates those extremes and survives.

I was in Placerville 2 years ago and it was a rainy cold day at about 4pm. As I made a left on to a side street it looked like a teen-age kid sitting on the curb wearing only a white t shirt and jeans. Soaking wet. While I was trying to find a place to turn the truck around, I put in a call for a well fare check to the PD. By the time I got back to where the kid was there were 3 units. One LEO was squatted down in front of the kid with his hand on the kids shoulder, the other was kneeling next to the kid with his hand on the kids forearm and the 3rd was putting a blanket sort of thing over the kids shoulders.

I guess the kids shit head parents were after him and he just couldn't handle it so he left with nowhere to go. Thats good police work right there. Community policing and not simply law enforcement. I dont think a guy can complain about the loser LEO's who should get a different job unless you praise the good ones. I got a mailed letter of thanks to the one I sent in praising the officers.

Yeah no one works as hard as you or has to make sacrifices.

GTFO

anyone who gets a “job” sucking on the public tit should have to work a minimum of 5 years in a real private sector job first.

You people are so out of touch

So I make a sarcastic comment to @TurboTrout about being a roofer, which is #3 on the list of most dangerous jobs and he laughed at it. Then you bloviate on about a bunch of crap that has nothing to do with that comment and aim it at me?

I suggest you go wash the sand out of your mangina, apply copious amounts of vagisil and when the itching stops, find a nice quiet place and get sexually acquainted with yourself.

Its hard to disagree with this as a general statement. I have had 2 nephews get all the way through the academy and seat time with FTO's. One is in the Sac area and the other in the Memphis area. Before quitting they both shared that they saw too many times what you described happens. Too bad qualified immunity still exists.....

And despite the bad ones there are departments that try. Mostly small rural ones perhaps although a friend was Chief for a large Bay Area city and he would not stand for it. I try to remain hopeful that things will improve.

Okay that’s it fucker, you are off of my Christmas Card list. I can’t have any semi-literate knuckle draggers on my list.

You might also want to try Midol with the vagisil, it helps with the cramps and bloating you are feeling.
So that’s how you get on the Christmas card list
