Yes. I bought a new SFP 308 bolt body for one of my AXMCs. It was defective (actually skipped an entire step in the machining process). It was the ONLY one in stock ANYWHERE at the time. I had to send it to AINA. They inspected and called me and said, yep - we'll replace it. I asked how long that might take since no one had them in stock anywhere. They said, don't worry - we keep plenty of stock of parts like this on-hand for repairing customer's rifles. It will ship out today.

So, even if you can't find an extra part in stock anywhere, there is an excellent likelihood that AI has it on hand if a rifle needs it for a repair.

I had a very different experience from you.

I called AI to ask about replacing a damaged bolt head on a rifle I purchased. They told me they don't swap heads (even though I found a post on here where a rep stated they do), and instead offered to sell me a whole new bolt body for $800 and change (which they had in stock). Not what I wanted to hear, but figured I'd take them up on the offer. When I called back to purchase, the guy I got on the phone acted like I was an idiot and told me they don't sell parts, despite giving me a price for it maybe two days earlier.

Fortunately for me, a kind member here offered to swap his better condition bolt head for mine, so my ugly gas cut bolt has been united with the 7 axis dremel body.

And for anyone curious, swapping bolt heads is like a ten minute process, so I have no idea why they don't do it for people.

Did you send your bolt in to them for repair?

Anyone here know of anyone who makes a rubber pad that covers the AXSR 308 mag’s baseplate? To keep it from cracking when reloading over rocks/concrete? I coulda sworn I seen a post with some sort of rubber baseplate thing on some mags a year or two ago.

I printed some out of TPU on FDM printer, they work but the print quality of TPU is not great, not good enough to make a product out of it IMO, and I'm too lazy to do a full clean up and powder swap of the SLS printer.

No, they just told me to purchase a whole new bolt body, and made sure to tell me I'd void my warranty if I did any work on it myself. I obviously disregarded.
That's odd. How was the bolt head damaged? It's kinda weird they told you to just replace it without them even seeing it. It is understandable that they wouldn't warranty any work not done by them, though.

If ya don't find what you seek my dude, let me know, we've got a nice Markforged printer at work I could commandeer for a 'special assignment' (thanks @derek1ee for the idea).

I got to mess around a bit and set the mag catch height on the GrayOps A-dub. Easy enough to do. Definitely looks like a mag extension when you're used to a regular smooth AW barely poking out. Fit and finish is super nice. I was going to spray it to match my dasher barrel but it looks good and it's already a tight fit in the magwell.

There's a neat little ridge in the mag and follower at the cartridge shoulder, and using the patented finger test, looks like it may help minimize nosedives. I almost want to screw on the dasher barrel just to play with it a bit.

Did some additional stress testing of pfl338's AXSR/AXMC AICS mag collar design today, ran 100 rounds with 5 round string pairs at speed (i.e. as quickly as I could run the bolt and reacquire the target) out of a polymer MDT 308 mag in the AXSR. Not just from bench seated, but also off of a bag with weight into the front of the magazine. Ran flawless without any issues. I now have 3 MDT polymer mags with these collars on them and they will be my primary short action magazines for the AXSR.

Need someone to make a 300 prc specific mag next

Hey man it looks like you have 5.56, 308, and a magnum bolt heads here. Are these short action bolts or ASR? I’d like to run mangum (saum or PRC) and 556 in my ATX but I’m not aware of that being possible. Let me know if I’m wrong.

How to vandalize your AT rifle with AE Mk 2 skins:

Strip AT rifle, remove all flush cups because we don’t need no stinkin’ flush cups, mark cuts for skins with tape.

Hey! One of the skin screws won’t pass through the chassis fore end! Use a 1/8” transfer punch to mark it.

View attachment 8352837

And drill a 15/64 hole because that’s what all the other holes in the chassis are.

To be continue

AT rifle vandalism, continued.

I’ve got a drill press in the garage but it’s crowded out there what with the nice car that’s never seen rain or salt on the trickle charger and all, and I think I’m out of propane for the heater anyhow.

Anyway, it’s more fun to drive 10 minutes to your buddy’s machine shop and watch him drill holes in your chassis on his Bridgeport.

He’s not a gun guy at all but he’s knocked out by the interrupted threads in the receiver for the barrel.

I go home and assemble my shit. Everything is going swimmingly until I function check the rifle.

The trigger is stuck solid and won’t budge. Upon further investigation, I discover the mount for the trigger shoe is hanging up on the skins at the top of the skin’s trigger opening.

The triangle shaped piece at the top rear of the trigger opening has to go. Razor saw:

It worked!

I had him counter bore the “stupid idea” early fore end for the counter sunk screw mounting of the late fore end. Maybe this summer I’ll debond the fore end and switch over to the early front sling swivel style.

Probably about the same time I pop off these skins and DuraCoat them OD green. It’s too cold to paint with that nasty stuff now.

Edited to add- this mod will work with AICS skins, too.

With the AICS, you’ll have the big square bolt opening for the R700.

You won’t have to modify the trigger opening because that’s already done.

This is because the rear action mounting bolt opening is at the rear of the trigger opening.

Finally got a decent enough day in Northern Virginia to spray some DuraCoat WWII OD green on the vandalized skins for my AT.

Yes for the short actions. Currently I have 7saum and 300wsm and 223 barrel for my AT. Check with bugholes/spr for the 223 conversion. @MOUNTIC also posts them up every now and then too. Factory bolts are the hardest item to source

By the end of the month my Wife will be recovered from her knee surgery and I’ll be able to get back out on Quantico’s Range 4.

I’ve been trapped in the house with her for 3 weeks with 3 to go.

It’s actually worse for her- the only time she can leave the second floor is when she’s carried down the stairs be me and a buddy in an EMS chair so I can load her in her car for physical therapy.

Then we repeat the process in reverse…

Question about SA Magnum choices for the AIAT….I sent my extra bolt to Fritz this morning. I mostly see 6.5PRC or 300 WSM is one better than the either? Any different suggestions to consider? I run a DeadAir Sandman S on my AT if that makes any difference….

180gr ELD's from a 7mm SAUM are hard to beat at 2900fps

Thanks bigfoot. I contacted bugholes and they only do the .223 conversion. Nothing for magnum and no plans for magnum. Where did you get your magnum setup?

In the px. They pop up every so often. If you source a 308 bolt I believe guys are having them modified by black canyon customs now.

My scope decided to divorce my AT @Huskydriver

I’m gonna put a red dot and magnifier on it for the time being since it’s only a 308
