Glock .22 G44...?

Unless you are looking for a Glock 44 to be a trainer for a higher caliber Glock, there are certainly better options. If you are just looking for a plinker, Ruger MK IV is still one of the best bets out there. If you want higher end, look at Volquartsen.

Ive put over 25k rounds through mine, I can't kill the damn thing. I got it after one of the gun mags boasted that they'd put 10k rounds through it without cleaning and it still going strong. I thought surely this is some Glock fanboy BS. I was proven wrong.

There may be better options if you've got specific requirements, but its a great trainer, and good for beginners.

The ProMag 18rd magazines are terrible though, if you're looking for increased capacity.

My dad won one in a raffle, with the dead air mask on the barrel it’s a hoot.
No, it’s not “great” and feels daily cheap but it’s a nice little gun that hasn’t really misfed that I can think of. Kids (me) really like just plinking at cans 10 yards away. Won’t win any accuracy contests or steel challenge etc

I have number 66 of the first run, been run hard and just keeps running. A great trainer for the other Glocks . Wish it would come in a MOS but as I hate the Glock mos system maybe not bad thing .
The promag 18 rounders can be finicky but out of 5 I have 3 that run perfectly. The only promag anything that I’ve ever had run well.
Shoot a lot of critters with the G44 . Works WAY better than any conversion kit I’ve ever tried .

Always planned to get a G44, then heard Taurus was decent for the $ but couldn’t resist last month when I saw a Keltec P17 for $180+tax at Academy. Ugly little puke eats everything, accurate enough plinker and makes a nice host for the Oculus. Probably not a serious target pistol (my M41 & MkII scratch that itch) but pretty fun for the $.

My g44 has been flawless. It’s not a “fun” gun in my opinion. It’s a trainer. There are so many other 22s that are better for fun and competition. I own a few of the rugers and my favorite 22 plinked is the Taurus tx22, it actually is amazing!

If you want Glock platform it’s great, otherwise I think there are better options.

If it’s the gun I’m thinking about, when it came out it was a complete turd. Only has 10rd mags, Tarus has 16, if that’s important. Perhaps it has gotten better, though?

Did a bunch of research when I was in the market when the G44 was introduced (~2020), and had prev bought some Walter 22LR pistol that was so bad that the gun shop allowed me to return it. Swapped to a Ruger MKIV tactical only because it was in their inventory. That is a great gun, but only 10rd mags as well and it’s a whole different grip angle and weight.

Even the glock fanbois seem to suggest the TX22?

Honest Outlaw’s first look review does not start out well and he ultimately wasn’t a fan at the vid’s end. I can’t find his 1000rd review…perhaps he disliked it enough not to even complete his 1000rd test? Dunno.

Anyway, that’s what I recollect and what I’ve dug up. Guys that have actually owned it will probably have more valid and up-to-date info for you.

I purchased a g44 shortly after they were introduced. I was told the design team used blazer ammo for their testing (I don't know if this is true). This worked out well as I had/have thousands of rounds of blazer 22 ammo. My particular sample has never had a hiccup. No failure to feeds, no failure to eject, and out of 2000 rounds I've only had 4-5 failure to fires, which I blame on the ammo 🤷‍♂️

It goes with me almost everyday and I have plenty of holsters for it as it is compatible with the g19.

I have the exact same setup that I bought on Black Friday for $170 and as ugly as that piece is, it sure goes bang every time. I’ve been putting a hurting on the varmint in my residential backyard with the oculus and the Neighbors are none the wiser 😂

Trainer, for drawing, presentation, sight alignment, trigger pull, reloads, immediate action drill, AND feed back on target for pennies. Same holster for G19 and similarly sized tactical tupperware. Great for a new shooter and seasoned alike. Not a replacement for the ever so powerful 9mm, but a supplement non the less.

Same. Dirt cheap, lightweight and fun to shoot. Mine won’t cycle fast strings of
CCI Quiet-22 Segmented HP
40gn 710 fps estimated. I chrono’d at 600 fps.
Everything else it runs. Not very accurate but haven’t tried match stuff in it.

You can do all that with dry firing. 22 gives zero valuable feedback. We tried it back in day with AA kits, they provide no real value. Just practice with 9mm or dry fire.
Let me speak for most of the group.

We are SO FUCKING TIRED of your big headed opinions on every last thing under the sun.

You’re a broken record of “that’s stupid”, “that’s junk”, and “Chinesium!”.

Contribute something other than your bloviated, arrogant drivel.

Please.

Or don’t, and know most of us think you’re a moron. Suit yourself.

Meh different controls. And. And. And. Cleaning a ruger.
I clean mine all the time… The MK-IV breaks down with 1 pin. Depress pin, drop frame, pull the whole bolt assembly out in one piece, wide open cylinder for cleaning and pushing a brush out the muzzle. Less parts to break it down for cleaning, too. 👍🏼

Also, with these other slide operated .22’s, if you’re running suppressed they all have 1/2x28 adapters you’re going to have to remove before you can even remove the barrel from the slide… No thanks…I’ll just unscrew the can off the end of my fixed precision heavy barrel on the Ruger. 😉👌🏼

Time of the month again? My wife tells me bitch strength midol helps, so you should try some.

I bought a G44 within the first 3-4 months they were released. Mine was super finicky on ammo and how i stacked the ammo in the mags. I tried most available ammo that you could buy at wal mart, cabelas, academy, places like that. It was just finicky. Bought a Taurus tx22 comp and it has been a machine. I mounted a 507comp to it and its been a pretty sweet rig. In my particular experience, leaps and bounds more reliable than the g44.

It’s ugly but the Taurus runs Ike a mofo. I got the comp SCR, the high cap mags work great. I’ve had a few FTE issues but it’s dirty as hell. I did mod mine slightly with a new trigger shoe and custom spring. Wouldn’t mind getting a normal one with the optics cut. I really hate admitting that I like a Taurus, but they did a good job

I had a Glock 44. Fun to shoot but not as good as I hoped for in accuracy. Plus it was terrible suppressed which is what I got it for. I really prefer a Ruger semi auto over it all around

As to training with it. Its feel is similar enough to Glock 19 it would help but 9mm is so cheap these days might as well just practice with what you carry. Unless you’re a kid who can shoot a ton of rounds a month. Then for kid use a 22 to save some bucks

I thought this place was where Fudd lore was smashed.

But I’m reading is many don’t think tons of trigger time on an identical or near identical platform aids in shooting at all.
And that any Taurus is better than any Glock for anything ever .

I checked the date of the OP to make sure I wasn’t being sucked into an elaborate April Fools thread .

Just to make sure I’m correct - shooting 500 rounds through my G44 with same sights and trigger does nothing to help with shooting / muscle memory for my EDC G19 or 43x?

Shooting 500 rounds dryfire through your duty/carry gun would be a better use of your time.

You wont get false feedback with a pussyfart .22 that will inhibit good habits when actual fundamentals come into play with real recoil.

Want to get good with a 9mm pistol? Shoot alot of 9mm.

So this is just one guys opinion…

22lr can be a good trainer. And, it can be total trash. It kinda depends on what you are training. If the point of the training is; NPA, sight alignment, breathing, and trigger control; then 22lr can be beneficial. But, you can get probably 80% of the way there with dry fire. Same with draw and manual of arms. You can practice that at home, without firing a shot. All 22lr really gives you is confirmation on target. Most with any level of proficiency can call their shot (based on where the sights were when the trigger broke) without target confirmation.

Ok, so we can get most of our “basic proficiency” done at home. What else is there? Drop and drift? Nobody cares. Pistols are shot at point blank range; we’re not (typically) significantly affected by wind or gravity over the ranges typically shot. Pistols are like instant cameras. Just point and shoot.

Fine, we can get most of our manipulation done at home, and aren’t materially affected by gravity and wind. What else? Recoil control? This is where 22lr falls on its face. The recoil is insignificant relative to what we are- hypothetically- training for. I mean, if you’re training slow fire, no big deal. But, if you’re training hammer pairs or bill drills or rapid target transitions using a 22lr, you can be so lazy with your control of the pistol- and still shoot fast- that it doesn’t transition to your “main squeeze.”

At the end of the day, with 22lr you’re left with- maybe- 20% better training, relative to dry fire, and only 50% lower cost, relative to 9mm.

From a purely economic and efficiency standpoint, one would be better served with dry fire at home and carry/duty pistol at the range.

The above notwithstanding, dry fire is boring as fuck, and shooting 22lr is more fun than shooting bigger cartridges. If the choice is between not practicing at home vs shooting a 22lr at the range, then the nod goes to the 22.

We should all train extra hard to manage that 4-5 foot pounds of recoil in our snappy .9mm hand cannons that blow lungs out of the body.
A 16 oz 22lr firing a 40 grain bullet at 1050 fps has roughly 1/2 the recoil velocity of a 30 oz 9m firing a 115 grain bullet at 1050 fps. Recoil control is a thing, and 22lr is a lousy substitute if the goal is to shoot a defensive pistol fast.

Put a 22 pistol in someones hand and shoot paper at 7 yards and then do the same with a 9mm. Most people will be able to keep the group size about 1/3 to 1/4th the side with a .22 vs the 9mm. Recoil plays a significant factor in the shoot ability of a pistol, especially in a not very high level shooter like most people are.

Its actually one of the arguments for using a .22 for self defense. Putting a few rounds on target fast is going to have more effect on target than vs missing under pressure. Paul Howe, one of the OG Delta assualters / trainers and Veteran of battle of the Mog, carries a 22WMR revolver for this reason. 1 or 2 to the brain bucket and its lights out. Small, light, easy to shoot and easy to get someone to a competent level. And this is from a guy who was part of the best combat pistol shooters in the world and has trained tens of thousands of people over the years.

The problem with my posts in this thread is I assumed everyone here had the reasoning skills of a 8th grader at the least. I see now I need to break it down like I do for my 5 year old and talk like I am trying to explain something to a undeveloped brain. My bad.

And, anyone that thinks this isn’t a thing should attend a Steel Challenge Match. Without fail the scores will be distributed thusly…

GM and M PCCs at the top
Rimfire Rifle next
PCC
Rimfire pistol after than
Pistol with Optics
Pistols with Irons
Revolvers

There will be some bleed over at the boundaries, but revolver shooters will score near the bottom. PCCs will be at the top. Rimfires score above centerfires.
