This may be in the wrong place, but I am shooting 88s out of my 223 and they are significantly better than the 77s I've shot forever. next barrel, I would like to extend the freebore to allow a shallower seat and potentially try some 95s just for curiosity sake. Anybody know the preferred sweet spot?

I can’t answer your question for the best freebore for those bullets, but I have a .223 with .100” freebore and it has worked well for seating out 88 eldm’s or Berger 85.5’s long. I’m sure some f t/r class guys can speak to it better as they shoot the heavy’s in .223 with custom reamers.

Thumb through this thread and see if it helps.

Thanks. A lot of useful stuff in there. Most of the threads I’ve searched mostly refer to Wylde or AI when you start talking about anything bigger than 77s.

Not sure of sweet spots.
Everyone has their own idea of what type reamer and the amount of freebore for the type of
projectile they are going to use.

Saw this on another thread which may help. Scroll down to post #133 and #135

What's wrong with data for the Wylde chamber?
Some more modern bullets post-date the wylde chamber. 85.5 Berger comes to mind, I think the ideal throat/fb or whatever for 85.5 is around 100, but I'd have to check my notes. [ETA my notes show ideal "spec" FB for the 85.5 Hybrid @ 0.99 and for Beger 90VLD Target @ 1.06.]

I am well aware of that. Pretty much any 223 chamber is going to have to be 'non standard' to accommodate that class of bullets. But OP was lumping the 223 Wylde in with the 223 Rem Ackley Improved. There's absolutely nothing about the Wylde chamber itself - throat aside - to make load data materially different. The throating will of course make a huge difference, but it's entirely possible / common to have a Wylde chamber throated long.

I shoot a .100 and like it for 77s in prs tac stuff. The 90s arent that much longer and can be made to cram into a mag. For the 95s youre going to want to consider something much longer and I wouldnt think mag feeding would be very feasible if that matters to you. Most f class guys Ive read that use 95s have a.180 throat or something. Its crazy for lesser bullets. Youll likely also want a 1-6.5 twist instead of 1-7.

Personally Id build a hotter rifle like a 22 creed for those heavy heavy 22 bullets.
