More DUI for profit arrests- this time a dying man

May of these stories are just starting to go public because it takes about 2 years to get through the system
Two years of being involved in the system - maybe with license suspended, maybe job lose or in this case almost die and go blind .

For a bullshit illegal arrest .

You can be intoxicated without alcohol. Not justifying the lack of.medical care but this commentator is harping on the PBT result of 0. That was why the cops had the blood test drawn....no excuse for the results taking 2 years though.

As an aside, severe diabetic episodes appear exactly like heavy intoxication....even has the smell of booze

I'm from NY. I never had any actual from Kentucky or West Virginia. But I feel some kinship for people like the Hatfields and the McCoy.

If someone took a pound of flesh from one of theirs they went and got it back. With interest.

There is no consistent penalty applied to police who do wrong. That should change.

Many years ago, perhaps before I was even born (?), my insulin-dependent Type I diabetic Dad had been working at the farm all day, and came home with (unknown to him, because it is insidious) really low blood glucose levels. He made it to an intersection a block from his house and passed out, stopped at the intersection. Someone saw him and called the cops. They showed up, determined he was drunk, and were in the process of arresting him. A neighbor who was also diabetic and knew him well, figured out what was going on and tried to explain it to them. They didn't want to listen, but he was insistent. Somehow, he talked them into letting him get a Coke down him. Within 10 minutes he was back to himself, fully alert and making perfect sense answering all their questions. The cops told the neighbor that if he hadn't showed up and convinced them to reconsider their conclusion that he was drunk, he would have been taken to jail and thrown into the drunk tank for the night to "sober up". What actually would have happened is that his glucose level would have continued to plummet until he started having hypoglycemic seizures and potentially died without medical intervention.

There is a very narrow “therapeutic window” for certain kinds of strokes using certain types of medications, I’m told…
When they took him to the hospital they said they found him in this condition- sitting in a car . Failed to mention he’d been in jail on false charges for the past 7 hours

So even if they thought he was on some narcotics- watching his condition deteriorate for 7 hours and no one thought they should get him some medical attention?

And yes it took 2 years for his negative blood results to come back from the lab to totally clear his name so he could file his civil suit. What the fuck .

My daughter who is diabetic had a similar situation at a store, I had to go and get a juice and pour it down her throat while ignoring all the people saying she was high, drugged out or drunk. I had to get physical to get to her. I understand what they deal with but when someone in the family is telling them hey she is a diabetic and they want to call you a liar all bets are off. I am taking care of my kid.

One of my first Lts had a daughter who was diabetic. She had a similar incident except the cops knew her so let her go after she ate a couple pieces of candy. She went into diabetic shock on her drive home, wrecked and died

I can somewhat relate, when my daughter with diabetes started driving she had several incidents, about one a year . Luckily never hurt herself or anyone else.

Yes speed of diagnosis and treatment is the best weapon when it comes to stroke recovery/ mitigation of damage . 100%

Guess these guys had never dealt with any medical issues , never come across anyone having a diabetic issue, and they didn’t really suspect drug overdose either - cause if they did they pretend that it took two years to get lab results . They went for the easy fake DUI money - and then when his condition worsened they hoped he would die to save them from the coming lawsuit .

Let’s say their part out loud- “we thought he was drunk but he blew a 0.0 , so we knew it was narcotics possibly pharmaceuticals that made the suspect mumble and stumble and drool and pass out and become unresponsive.” “So we waited 7 hours to get him any medical care because , well just because he was a dangerous criminal driving around on those drugs !”

It takes 3-6 weeks max to get blood analysis results from any lab . And usually much faster turn around time .
