Let's be honest here.... Every brake this style over the past decade or so has been a slightly modified version of the APA bastard brake. 99% of the firearms industry is slightly modified older designs with very little originality.Serious question? Why buy a shitty half ass rip off that costs almost as much as the real thing?
We agree on thisSerious question? Why buy a shitty half ass rip off that costs almost as much as the real thing?
Is it a attempted rip off? Other than the multi segment tig weld VS monolithic construction is the only similarity.Serious question? Why buy a shitty half ass rip off that costs almost as much as the real thing?
Clearly Preece needs to show us on the doll where the Australian touched him. It's obviously an attack on BJ and his company, especially considering the relationship and history. You can tell from the baffle geometry is not an exact rip off and most likely is not as effective as the Chad. But the construction is designed to mimic it at a cheaper price point. There is nothing else on the market that looked like the Chad.
If it was anyone else it probably wouldn't be as big of a deal. I think anyone buying the preece brake is a moron personally. You can get the real thing for like 90 bucks more. If price is an issue then there are half a dozen high performing brakes under $200. It's like buying a fake Louis Vuitton bag for $1800. For $2400 you can have the real thing. Retarded.
Yes we have long memories and Garrett will never see a dollar from me. And yeah offering a poor version of a quality (now) product and basically stealing lessons learned. And they are doing a half assed job of copying and selling it at the nearly the price of the quality item.Try this. People in the community have long memories. You, being a prime example.
The launch of the Chad was a blunder, that really turned a lot of people off. Yes, BJ had a lot going on with injuries and getting moved out of the country, etc. but it doesn't change the fact that a lot of guys didn't get what they paid a lot of money for for a long time.
The Morgun King Edition brake was also a mess, and there are a number of guys who were friends with Morgun who felt like BJ just dragged his name through the mud, and it really pissed some people off.
Further, BJ's social accounts are kind of cringey, and it turns some people off
Baffle strikes. I know three guys who've had them. "Strike Every Baffle Without Warning".
A lot of people like Garrett. A lot of people don't like BJ. Go figure.
BJ has operated forever with weird payments. In 2022 when asking about a TMB, the payment was super vague, and seriously - who's operating a business with payments via Zelle? Just get stripe and a US bank account and pay taxes maybe? Garrett's always been a lot easier to buy from. Yes, BJ finally got a site up and a payment gateway but man, it felt shady for a long time.
What's more is that this isn't even the same design. It's just welded ports together. The Baffle stack is completely different. Comparing it to buying a fake Louis Vuitton bag? More like choosing to buy a Coach bag because screw having a bag covered in "LV", and you like the design of something else.
To top it off, Garrett actually manufactures his own stuff. BJ has other machine shops make his stuff in the USA and then charges his own profits on top of it. His TMB costs to manufacture were upwards of $200, and he was always having issues finding machine shops to do it, so his production has been unstable at best. Garrett does the stuff in house, on his own equipment. Sheesh, BJ could have bought a CNC machine and run a business on it, but resorted to having other people do the work and charging a fortune, even for the TMB.
Maybe be a little less confused at other people making their own decisions for themselves based on what they want, who they want to support, and what kind of money they're willing to spend.
Different baffle designs is innovation... If one proves to be more effective than the other, innovation is winning. Ideas are cheap, execution is not. Whoever implements an idea better deserves more of my business.Seriously please reward the guy who did the work to design the original or we won’t see innovation
Did ya play tummy sticks too?I talked to Garrett while picking up an action and barrel. Super cool guy, would definitely pick his brake over the Chad any day.
They probably exchanged mix tapesDid ya play tummy sticks too?
How dare you, Kevin B is a God among engineers(sarcasm)suppressors that are literally just laser welded baffle stacks
I bought the Preece brake to give it a try. I was currently using the APA fat bastard. I made a video of me and a buddy practicing one shot drills, This is not a review of the Preece brake. Thought I would post the video here in case anyone wanted to see the muzzle rise while I was shooting the brake. Again, this is not a review of the brake. Watch and see from a few different positional shooting positions as we don't practice on the most stable props.

You are a bitter sum bitch ya know that? Get over yourself.
Good observation. That's my buddy shooting the APA, he has a lot of time behind his rifle and the APA for sure. I'm shooting a match with the Preece this weekend, and I'll make my mind up about it. So far, I like it.Took me a minute to realize the first gun is using the APA and the other gun was the Stinger.
What bullets/cartridges you both firing? Yours seems to stay flatter by a long shot, but that'd a dumb point to make if you're shooting .223 and he's shooting a Creedmoor or something.Good observation. It appeared in the side profile clips, the Preece had notably less muzzle jump VS the apa gen3.Good observation. How’s the concussion on the shooter with it.Good observation. That's my buddy shooting the APA, he has a lot of time behind his rifle and the APA for sure. I'm shooting a match with the Preece this weekend, and I'll make my mind up about it. So far, I like it.

It doesn't bother me, or I don't notice it. I don't feel a blast. How’s the concussion on the shooter with it.
The DN5 , FB3 and 419 all have significantly more blast to the shooter. The chad is not as good as some others but its more pleasant to shoot over 2 days and the muzzle jump is different. Recoil reduction is only one aspect of what matters IMO. How fast and how far your reticle moves is more important I think. You are a bitter sum bitch ya know that? Get over yourself.
Shot ur Chad today, feels no different than a DN5 that it was swapped with.
I'm no fanboi, but I will admit that when picking up brass at a match next to a shooter, the Chad has a windier concussion in general compared to the baseball-bat-to-the-face that others have, especially MPA's brakes. I hate those things. The DN5 , FB3 and 419 all have significantly more blast to the shooter. I agree @jthor . As much as I like the CHAD, dealing with constant migraines and pressure headaches and then shooting brakes over a 2 day just beats the shit out of me. I pay for it for days. The VA has had me on every migraine rx and still cant figure it out.
I just ordered a competition can to give suppressed shooting a shot. I may have to switch to shooting suppressed just for my sanity going forward.
I am in the same boat, my kids don’t even want to be around brakes now that they have shot suppressed. My daughter is highly susceptible to Migraines and loves the CAT JL even with it’s length.Yup. Why I have bought three suppressors this year. With the short approval times it’s simple.
