You are not. I have 2 AT’s and only shoot a single caliber in each of them so the barrels are very rarely removed.

153 Bergers shoot pretty well out of my 26" 1:8.The AXSA just got a straight tube 6.5. I wish it was 7 or 7.5T but at the time of ordering I got an 8T with plans to only shoot 140s. Going to try the 153s, but I’m not too confident they’ll stabilize properly.
Barrel is THICK. Makes the AXSR HV barrel look tiny![]()

Wow dude, you gonna take any allen wrenches to this match or you just gonna hope other guys got ya covered? Haha
So I went ahead and ordered an L. E. Wilson expander die and mandrel as well as a case gage. They are on the way. I will see what the expander mandrel does and go from there. I wanted the Sinclair Gen 2 expander die and mandrel but they have been out of stock for a while. I have a feeling I will be ordering more mandrel and case gages in the future. I will also be full length sizing all cases from now on before I prime them.
Is that Geissele?Brah

18% more powder for only about 125fps gain over 300prc
I can understand. I’ve been back and forth so many times. I’ve got 60 rounds of ammo (Berger 215 handloads in Peterson brass left over from previous 300NM barrel I sold) as well as the bolt for my AXSR and 300NM dies so I’ve been leaning towards getting that barrel. Plus there’s several in stock I’d be happy with.18% more powder for only about 125fps gain over 300prc
what bullet and speeds are you getting?18% more powder for only about 125fps gain over 300prc
Everyone I know (only a few) says that the effort to fireform, cost of dies and any other brass prep tool, does not warrant the minimal velocity increase. About the only good thing with 300NMI is the reduced brass growth. They all say it's the worst cartridge to improve.
My buddy's 28" 300NMI with N568, 245 LRHTs was 2970, vs my standard 27" 300NM 250 Atips, with RL50 at 2930.

Yeah, not much of a improvement. I'm running N570 with the 245s 2950ish out of a normal 300NM on a 26" barrel. Took a lot of different combos to get there, and had to have my freebore extended, but it's happy now. Just counting down the rounds when N570 is going to kill this barrel.Everyone I know (only a few) says that the effort to fireform, cost of dies and any other brass prep tool, does not warrant the minimal velocity increase. Curious - with AXMC/AXSR, where is the juice vs the squeeze over the 300NM? Do you track throat erosion?Yeah, not much of a improvement. I'm running N570 with the 245s 2950ish out of a normal 300NM on a 26" barrel. I don't think there is any benefit aside from reduced brass growth. With my 300 NM (Lapua brass) I have to trim about 0.004" after every firing (annealed each firing). I don't remember how much I trim above min SAAMI length (+0.002 to 0.005), but it's just to be consistent between each firing.Curious - with AXMC/AXSR, where is the juice vs the squeeze over the 300NM? Or is there?
Do you think any other cartridge beyond 300NM would be worth running in the AXMC/AXSR? 33/37XC?I don't think there is any benefit aside from reduced brass growth. With my 300 NM (Lapua brass) I have to trim about 0.004" after every firing (annealed each firing). I don't remember how much I trim above min SAAMI length (+0.002 to 0.005), but it's just to be consistent between each firing.
This ^I mean, sure, there are benefits to those larger cartridges. Really depends on your use case. ELR Light or Tac class (if you can get the AXSR under 19lbs), I think the 30 cal with high BC 230s at 3000+ fps is superior to any of the 338 cartridges, especially if you can get into the 3200 fps realm.
For the AXSR, you can have a 1.350x5" straight taper to 1.1 at 30", you can still be underweight for the ELR light. I also run the TBAC 338 Ultra SR 100% of the time and run Ckyepods DP, which is a significant portion of weight right there.
Another reason I like the 300 NM is you can mag feed the heavies, whereas 338 LM you'll neuter the cartridge if you try to mag feed the 300gr bullets, or run into donut issues down the line. And 33/37XC is going to be strictly single-feed.
If you're shooting Heavy class, I think the AXSR will be handicapped compared to the other purpose-built rifles.
For the AXSR, I'd stick with 300NM or 300 PRC, but run long barrels for the PRC to make up for the velocity. This is just theoretical, but the hit percentages increase drastically at extended distances (2000+ yards) with 230s at 3100+ fps compared to 2900fps or the 338 cal 300s at 2900 fps.
I don't but when I clean, I run a bore scope down the barrel to check how clean it is. I don't chase the lands. But 700+ rounds in, you can see quiet a bit of cracking. I would be happy if it last 1200 rounds. I'm sure if went with a different powder I could extend the barrel life, what a couple hundred rounds? I realize performance comes at a cost. And I am not going to shoot a NM at PRC speeds..... There is a reason why you go Norma.Do you track throat erosion?
With RL50, I was only getting 0.003" every 100 rounds. But with the factory Berger 230, which I assume is H1000, I was getting 0.008" which was the first rounds fired then the 300-400, it was 0.006". I'm at 600 rounds now and the last 200 with RL50 I've only had 0.001" totaling 0.023" total erosion since the new barrel.
I know N570 is a barrel burner, but just curious to how it compares to other powders.
