Griffin mk2 9mm

Interested as well as I've never built a 9mm pcc. I've built several ARs and really like the Griffin/ADM lowers for their ambi controls and would love to build a 9mm pcc with a similar lower. Might be a dumb question but what pcc parts do you use and where do you get them? Griffin only offers the lowers and no other parts.

There are a ton of websites to get parts from, Griffin isn't really offering all the pieces yet but probably will. Personally I would look into some type of delayed blow back, makes them alot easier to tune and much more enjoyable to shoot. I currently have a blowback 9mm and a mean arms bearing delay 9mm. The mean arms isn't the cheapest but you can use it on a standard ar lower with their Pmag inserts. You can also run their upper on a deticated 9mm lower if you want. I like the normal lower cause the mags are the same and indexing is the same action.

Yea I was looking at the complete 4.5” pistol they sold. I priced building one and looked like by the time you upgraded parts and stuff it wasn’t that far off the griffin sale price they have now. How much nicer is a delayed blowback vs standard? I was just looking to keep it simple but I don’t know what I don’t know so I’m open to suggestions.

Delayed blowback is much nicer, Thats why people compete with them. Jp, Mean and CMMG all have some type of delayed unlocking of the bolt. Their might be others as well that Im not aware of. IMO any blowback 9mm is all about the same. They just need to have so much mass in the bolt and buffer to work correctly it just makes the recoil impulse shitty.

The other upside of a delayed setup would be the lower likely hood of an out of battery discharge. Like anything else just kinda depends on the budget and what you want out of it.

I put together a 5" 9mm suppressor host and stuck a YHM R9 on the end of it. I used a CMMG barrel and radial delayed bolt carrier group. My setup has the ejector in the bolt. Not the fixed ejector model. For a lower, I used a CMMG dedicated for Colt pattern stick mags.

I run an H3 buffer and flatwire spring. The recoil impulse is something between an MP5 and a straight blowback. It shoots well.

The only difference the lower is going to make is that it dictates what magazines you can use. If I had it to do over again, I'd go with a standard lower and run the Mean Arms dedicated 9mm mags that have the standard AR15 profile. I think they're called Exomags. I may still do it. I've only recently discovered the Griffin ambi lowers and want one.

Although my rig, as it is, feeds all of the heavier bullets I've tried (147gr and up), it gets finicky with 115s and 124s of the hollowpoint variety. When I was running the Endo mag inserts, it was more forgiving of ammo type.

Regardless, I'd definitely be looking into some sort of delayed action system. Just beware that I don't think that any one system, other than CMMG's has been out long enough to be fully tried and true. Even CMMG didn't figure out till it was too late that the ejector spring was prone to failure in their system and have now gone to a fixed ejector.

When researching, make sure to check on the availability and cost of replacement parts.

On mine, I opted to stick with the older design and replace the ejector spring as needed. Both the CMMG upgraded springs and the Springco springs work a good while. 1k+ rounds for me, but it's gonna depend on how tight your headspace is. I chose not to upgrade to the fixed ejector model because paying $400 to fix a design flaw is BS and I'm not wild about their fix. Compromising the integrity of the bolt and carrier to shoe horn an ejector didn't tickle me.

The upside to going full blowback is that the system has been around for a LONG time. You can get a straight blowback to shoot pretty good. There are now flatwire springs and hydraulic buffers that are almost a game changer for blowback systems. The downside is that suppressors add back pressure and the only way to control closed bolt lock time on a blowback system is buffer weight and you'll have to use a lot of it.

Why not just look at a Springfield Kuna or something like that? They shoot pretty good. There just isn't a whole lot of room for a light. Well, not on the one I shot anyway.

Just to be pedantic, I'll mention that the JP5 operating system is basically lifted right out of the MP5, which is definitely a tried and true gun.

Oh, geez. Another one I've gotta check out. Man, for me an AR9 was just something to play with, UNTIL I got a 9mm suppressor. Now I'm seeing an answer to the question of why? Its been a long time since I bought a complete firearm that wasn't a hamdgun, but I've recently found myself researching alternatives to what I have. I love the way the MP5 shoots, but everything else about it sucks.

Oh, geez. I just went and checked them out. That 6" is calling my name.

I've only put a few rounds through one, but its absolutely in a different league than any blowback gun no matter how well tuned. Less recoil than the one MP5 I've shot, and I find the AR based ergonomics to be far superior.

Yeah, that's what keeps me on the AR9. The ergonomics. The manual of arms is superior to other platforms and on my setup, I have enough rail space to comfortably a light and a switch. My overall barrel length including the suppressor is about 10". Its a very nimble setup without being overly small.
