Well I have started on another wildcat adventure for this next fall/winter varmit season. Always wanted a fast as fuck 20cal so here we are! Like the GT family so figured it would work well. Sending a round off to JGS for the reamer and buying bits and pieces for now. Build components listed below. Overall I’m hoping for 3800-3900fps out of the 20” with great accuracy of course. The Berger 55gr is an impressive little bullet on paper. I’ll keep yall updated once load development starts.

What are your thoughts on it possibly having too much case capacity to push the Berger at those speeds?

Well I’m not the first to do this. The 55gr bergers will handle that speed. Just finding the powder that it likes. Plan on trying Varget, H4350, RL15.5 and N555.

I met this guy in CO in 2012 or 2013 when he was trying to beat his previous record for shooting prairie dogs with a 20 Cal. He was using a 20BR. Wonder if he is still kicking and if he gets out to shoot prairie dogs any more.

I almost did a 20BR but was wanting more reliable feeding and I already own (2) 6GT’s. That is crazy impressive out past 1k yards though.

I wouldn't do it because I had a 20x47L and those 55's were blowing up not 300 rounds later.
These were going 3830fps in a 9 twist.
Fortunately 40gr vmax at 4100 worked fine though.

I still have my 20x47 reamer and custom dies with 100 loaded rounds if someone wanted to buy them.

20 Dasher with 55gr would be tops for me if I tried it again around 3650fps in a 9.5 or 10 twist to avoid the hassle I had.

I know two guys running 20GT’s in 1-8t with 55’s going 3800-3950 and no issues. One is a 26” and another is 20”.

I just placed an order for a 20 Cal bartlien 1-9. I’m also planning on a 20 GT. It will be a 204 Ruger replacement. Keep us posted, I’m sure I have 6-9 months to wait for the barrel and chamber job. I’m planning on letting Beanland chamber it for my Zeus QC.

I’ve had good luck with there HHT line in a 22creed. That 41g should haul ass in a 20cal setup. Ballistically that Berger 55g is hard to beat with at G1 of .354 at 3800+.

I’m going to try the following. Varget, RL 15.5 and H4350. See what gives me the most case fill vs velocity then start tuning.
