Who hunts with a 14-16lb rifle?

TL-DR
My Coyote hunting setup is varies from a 24lb accuracy international AX308 chambered in 6creed, and a 22 lb manners prc-tcs.

I’m in Illinois, so no mountains to hike. Usually parking and walking 1-500 yards to get to a spot. But I’m 28 and fit, so it works for me.

19ish lbs

That night's kills.

19 lbs is heaviest setup I've used for critter control ... usually more like 14-15 lbs, strap across chest.

No heavy hunting rifles for me. 9 lbs 2 oz is complete with scop is heaviest rifle I've ever carried into the field, in 338 Win mag.
I prefer rifles in 7 lbs range. With low power light scopes.

Big game is a huge target no need for a target rifle...many are killed with open sighted heavy caliber handguns, and even bow and arrows

After the kill ya got to make many trips packing out the head and quartered meat, miles and miles on foot, up and down steep mountains, over downed trees in fairly deep snow, crossing small rivers and streams all day long.
A heavy rifle will kill ya....
I leave my light rifle in the truck at the end of road on the first trip out, so as to pack more meat, and only carry a large fixed blade knife for protection back to get the elk meat in bear and lion country.

Heavy Bear country with an animal down I’ll have my revolver on my chest rig

Granted I’ve never killed an animal in Grizz country only in Colorado but I now only hunt where there are a heavy amount of bears. At least the amount of sign is wild.

I’d rather always have something to shoot on me.

Couple years back we had a Grizzly come in our camp take a shit and leave in the middle of the night……we never even woke up.

You never know

Shit, my prs rifle only weighs 15lbs and I didn’t want to lug it into the bathroom to weight it. 🤣

For hunting, “light is right, and lighter is righter…”

But...

Recoil...

Is...

Hurtful.

22# 6mm mouse fart for the win.

I love lightweight rifles. I loaned a 7.5# 7 Rem mag to a buddy a couple of years ago. He gave it back the next week. Said no way was he going to learn to shoot it.

I offered the 6.5# 280. Three shots later, he said no on that one too.

The recoil really isn't even remotely painful. It's the speed of the recoil, or some might call it sharp recoil. You can't shake the feeling that you'll get bitten by the scope.

Buncha slack-jawed faggots around here. 😆😆
(Too lazy to go and find the meme)

For hunting correct? How is it packing around?
It is a bit heavy but i go with a laser range finder and a small bag. It nice to know i can smoke something at 500 or so yards with this setup off a “nature prop” 😃. I will say that when i feel the shots will be less than 200 yards i go with one of my 6.8 spc AR rigs that are right at 8lbs with a leupold 1-4 scope that weighs 8 OZ That is also a great setup. For me its all about how well the rifle balances
