I think that this guy's knowledge was proven to be extremely limited before... and that he spends a lot of time talking out the side of his neck.
The above clip demonstrates that he has no clue what a Ball/API/APIT or SLAP round will do to a human. That story was complete fabrication.

There comes a point where you claim so much, that people will start looking into it.
I unfortunately had a Marine - a frigging counterpart E6 - who constantly yapped about killing dudes as a prior infantryman in Afghanistan as well as the Iraqi invasion (even while we were deployed together in Iraq). Eventually, he ran his suck so much that his stories crossed, and his facts started to sound fishy... like 'so stupid it can't be real' fishy. I looked into his claims on MOL as I had 1stSgt privileges (that just let me look at everyone's basic record of service - but it includes their original contract information, individual awards, and deployment history)...
...Lo and behold, the dude was never prior infantry. He did do the Iraqi invasion kind of - but his deployment only listed "Kuwait". He was never in Afghanistan. He had never been in combat. In fact, he was wearing a lot of awards that he never earned. I passed the information to the other SNCOs, and we all just F-ed with the dude mercilessly without ever letting him know we were in on his charade. It became a game to us to ask him about his Afghanistan history, and he'd just ramble on and on like this fag in the video above. The junior Marines were told to ignore him.
... Then came the day that my counterpart went to the Career Course (professional school for E-6s), and came back after graduation with an additional 5 ribbons on his chest that he never earned - including a combat action ribbon. That was where we had enough and 'ran him up the flagpole'. He visited the Bn SgtMaj and came back rather sheepish, but no charges. However, he didn't learn his lesson and did the same frigging thing with the extra ribbons and medals for the Marine Corps Ball a few months later. He got photographed and ran up the flagpole again... and somehow got orders out of our Bn within the week.
I don't think anything administrative was ever done to him, which is B.S. He ended up retiring as an E-7, and ironically friend requested a bunch of us on Facebook.
We occasionally will comment on one of his photos with his new wife with an "Have him tell you about Afghanistan".
Just volunteering and serving is duty enough to prove that you have some fortitude as a human being. You don't need to embellish your record to make friends, and frequently you are going to pass off bullshit that is going to raise eyebrows of those who know better. At that point, you get whatever comes your way.

I'm definitely going to agree with you on the occasional verified professional not knowing the ins and outs of ballistics etc... to the savants that occasionally grace us on this site.
But my problem comes from fabrication of stories.
It is like anything else in life; You are frequently excused if you don't know something and own up to it. You are not excused for lying or fabricating the truth (unless you're in Congress apparently).
Its really sad how these guys all start to puff up their stories once they get popular. Maybe its a money thing, they see more dollars the wilder their stories are and the more podcasts they can do?
They are already American badass warriors, they don't need to inflate their stories. In today world its so easy to discredit someone as everything is recorded and guys will step forward to call their bullshit. Why risk your honor and integrity for a few bucks? Foolish.

When I was infantry '97-'00 at Ft Campbell, it was a bullshit line that was "common knowledge" in our circle. Well, now that the mythbusters have demonstrated it's bullshit, even saw that Demolition Ranch disproved it as well, people should know better.
I saw a video from what i'm pretty sure was Iraq, humvee chasing after insurgents that had fired at them. Came around the corner and they were skirting the wall and the douce gunner let 'em have it. Killed the guys pretty good, but none of 'em emploded nor had limbs ripped off from near misses. Read another account of a soldier that was removing the barrel, but didn't clear it first, and supposedly went off and shot him through the gut. IIRC, he survived. I don't know the validity of that story though, could be complete bullshit. There is a lot of that going around.

I hate the .50. Outside of limited envelope there is almost always a better choice.
Its hard as fuck to control and accurately shoot without a T&E which means your shit out of luck mounted on a gun truck. It has no safety (unless you stick a spent case under the butterfly), pain in the ass dealing with headspace/timing, is heavy as fuck and limited belt size. The 50s we were running with build in the 1930s and still had wood handles.
I hated running one and would have MUCH preferred a 240 or even a MK19. Much better platforms to either quickly put accurate rounds on target or blow the fuck out of it with HEDP. I have seen all 3 used against vbieds and cars trying to get close to a convoy and its not even close which one stopped them the quickest. 40 mike mike for the win.
Never got why people loved them. Sometimes bigger is not better. Unless were talking about girth and explosive payload

I much preferred the .50 simply because it jammed less, and if there was a malfunction I could clear it from inside the turret and not have to climb halfway outside. Somebody way before me coined the term "bronze star reload", and that always made me chuckle.
